Title: Needed: a size comparison
Post by: OlBuzzard on October 30, 2005, 12:34:35 am
I need a size comparison between the following models:

1.  Galaxy class
2.  Ambassador class
3.  Yamato

This will help me tremendously ...

thanks

Ambassador is shorter than the Galaxy.  About as long as the Luna-class I'd imagine.  And definately not anywhere as 'deep' as the Galaxy-class.  Maybe 2/3 the volume of a Galaxy.

The Yamato (I assume you mean the Battleship from SFC-2-OP), is slightly shorter in length than a Sovereign-class (As far as the models indicate).  And I'd say around as deep as, say, an Excelsior.

I find this very usefull. Canon vessels are almost always in a state of flux as far as their suppsoed size, as nobody ever seems to agree, so I guess it's up to the individual fan to simply "pick one" but I like this one. Click "fleet charts" on the main page about 1/3 down for the amb and gal. Wont help with the yamato, unless u happen to find another  chart that has sfb or sfa (the yamato is from one of those right?)

The spec of Yamato is in the manual of Klingon Academy:
"Yamato" Class Battleship
Length: 854m

That sounds good ...   any chance we can get a visual ID on that ?  or perhaps the numerical representation of that data?

ahhh  VERY good ...!

thanks bud !

BTW  here is a link to one of the better sites on ST data banks for tech stuff ...  I now have this marked as a "fav"  hot list for quick access !  The thing I apperciate about it is that they took the time to foot note and document where they got their info from.

thanks again guys ...  Now back to work on the Alabama and the Iowa !

If ya look under their listing of the Galaxy class you will find the Yamato ...  and if ya check the foot notes ...  they also list WHERE it apeared in Trek !

854 meters!  Good grief.  ;)  Interestingly enough, the model is only sized around 600 meters in SFC2...  but here it is with the Galaxy and Ambassador at the KA scale:

Big mother of a ship...

the yamato the sister ship of the enterprise.

Any of you find an akyazi size stat in your searches? (that would be that strange fragile looking tmp vessel)

Akyazi class perimeter action ship From Ships of the Star Fleet, Volume 2.

Sub-classes:
Akyazi In service from 2286. 36 vessels (all new builds). NCC-1010 to NCC-1047. All ship names begin with A, B or E.
Arbiter In service from 2286. 41 vessels (all new builds). NCC-1048 to NCC-1089. All ship names begin with A, J or T.
Akula In service from 2288. 25 vessels (all new builds). NCC-1090 to NCC-1114. All ship names begin with A, K or S.

Strangely, these registries clash with the Horizon (NCC-1000) and Detroyat (NCC-1100) classes both of which were mentioned in Volume 1. Worse still they clash with the on screen NCC-1017 for the U.S.S. Constellation. Shifting the registries to NCC-1020 to NCC-1057 for the Akyazis, NCC-1058 to NCC-1099 for the Arbiters and NCC-1110 to NCC-1134 for the Akulas clears all the conflicts.

Perimeter Action Ships are part of a unique military strategy used against both the Klingons and Romulan during many of the early conflicts. Perimeter Action Ships were designed to use stealth and heavy firepower to engage enemy vessels during times of war.

Most Perimeter Action Ships do not have the extensive crew facilities found on other Destroyer vessels, often being on patrol for no more than 6 months. Perimeter Action Ships are smaller than a standard Destroyer, but have similar mass. Perimeter Action Ships use even more specialized and stealthy sensor systems, and are designed to be mass produced easily. Most Perimeter Action Ships do not have the research capability of a Destroyer, and rarely have shuttle bays, extensive repair facilities or emergency systems. Perimeter Action Ships do mount a large number of redundancy systems, giving them more resilience in battle.

Although easy to mass produce, Perimeter Action Ships are surprisingly expensive, often costing twice what a standard Destroyer costs. This, coupled with their limited exploration capability has kept their numbers reduced. But their heavy firepower and other unique systems continue to create a niche not filled by a standard Destroyer.

Length : 216.1m
Width : 120.2m
Height : 27.5 m
