the Caretaker Array is my own mesh, which I'm hoping to release after the first of the year

I always thought the Gunstars from that Last Starfighter movie was one of the neatest ships in SiFi. Are you planning to make both versions of Gunstars? If I recall, there was basically two versions of it in the Movie, although I'm not sure if both versions had looked different from one another.

Well, it rocks about as much as my Karma rating sucks..lol +1 or u.

Ah. The Gunstar. A personal non-trek favourite. A few things of note here:
1) In the film whilst there weren't two different gunstars, the one that was actually used was a heavily modified standard version. Grig himself stated that it could survive several direct hits (which meant that its shields/armour were far suprated compared to the normal version). It also carried the special weapon known as the "Death Blossom" which was a last resort but highly destructive weapon.
2) The film was the second to carry completely 100% computer generated graphically made items on screen (Tron was the first), although it was the first to have completely CGI space and ship settings.
3) A sequel was planned but never got past the script stage. Apparently it followed the continuation of Alex Rogans life and was supposed to be set directly after the first film. It went on to show the rebuilding of the Star League and Xur was supposed to return. Shame really as I've always found it to be an amazing film for its time.
4) The actual game Rogan plays was rumoured to have been made by Atari. Shame really because ever since I seen the film i would have loved to play the thing.
Anyway, now I've waffled in anough, the model looks great. Highly accurate from what I can see and might I suggest using http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=gunstar&sa=N&tab=wi as a bit of reference for texture colouring etc.etc.

There are two versions, the standard one, and the souped up one, which has the Death Blossom.
If ya need screenie, just say it, I have the movie ;)

that's awesome! i request and poof here it is.

Hmm... ya, the main one in the show had the Death Blossem and extra protection. But didn't the Standard verion look a little different then that one? Wasn't it a little smaller? I thought I remember in one scene we could see a whole squadron of them in the hanger bay, were those ones standard or the uprated?
Also, in a couple of scenes where we see the Computer Game Simulator (for Fighter recruiting of course ;) ) wasn't the opening scene of a Gunstar show it a little smaller then the uprated one? Maybe I'm wrong, just looks a little smaller.
-
Over all it looks good .. wasn't it longer (proportionately ?) just curious ?
excellent model though.

she is longer than she appears in the screenie, her stubbyness is a product of the shot angle

The hanger bay was filled with the 'standard' version, the one Grig and Alex had was a one of a kind proto-type.

yes it wa still being worked on for last minute prep.. as it was a prototype. That was probably why it was spared in the attack.

Thats exactly why it was spared. it wasn't in the main hanger at the time but in a separate test area

And now all we need is SpaceBall One.

We have an update for all those interested
Much thanks to O'Buzzard for the texure work

Is there any way the guys creating this Mesh could release it as a VERY low poly model? I ask because someone posted a link to a program that allows people to convert a 3D Model to a Paper Model you can build with simple paper. It would have too be under 500 Polys Max because the Program has a really hard time mapping out complex models over that limit. I was hoping too make a Paper model of a Gunstar.

You guys are rocking........this is looking great !!!! Gimmie a shout when ya want me to do my thing for her.

Request noted and I will do my best once the textures are complete. although 500 might be pushing it a bit
-
Well, the program can handle more then 500 poly, but it advises your models to be under that limit. Actually, I was thinking about dividing the model into parts and let the Paper Model program analyize each part into a Paper model. The only problem would be too keep each part in the same scale so that the program spits out the Paper model part in the correct size for each part, that way you could assemble it part by part. I don't know what your Gunstar Model is at now, but if you reduced it some amount, it would help out making a Paper model kit considerably. I tried too make a Paper Model Kit out of one of my SFB Ships, but unfortunetly it didn't turn out too well. Even a Model at 1500 Poly's, the program has a hard time making a decent Kit out of that many. The only way I can think of it working with High Poly Models is too break it up into smaller Parts.
Fallen Warrior, I was thinking about the same thing. I would use Either Wood or Plastic Styrene for the Inside of the Gunstar Model.

Can I scream now?
WooHoo!
Alex - "It'll be a slaughter!"
Grig - 'That's the spirit!" ;D

Buzz is doing a kick ass job on these textures

Hell yeah he is !!!!!!!! ;D

Wow! That texture Job makes it look better then the 3d models on the show. Nice job.

Thanks guys ... We now have the "foundational" stuff done. The next few days we can add the good stuff ... detail ... and tweak items that need to be cleaned up. Still a lot of work to do. Hopefully I can get this one wrapped up by this weekend at the latest !
-
Actually one of the most detailed models I've seen any where does not use an aztec as such. The panels are the aztecs (in the majority of those done). That said: If ya look closely there is a hint of an aztec in my version. One of the "tweaks" will be to play with them as well as either an "off white" hull or "flat gun metal" texture. I have seen both. I just have not made up my mind just yet. It's an easy change to make either way. (please note: right now we are using "off white" with the gun metal for accents).
Over all this is AV's model .... and it's his call either way.

Not bad but here are some good pics to use for reference.

current poly count is 7166 and yes a low poly version is in the works. for te low poly one I'm gonna try to get under 2000 polies
-
That Gunstar looks almost better than the real movie one.
Nice!
-
Wow...very nice. I had forgotten just how much I liked that movie!

I'm sorry to say this but I think I like Antivyrus's version more then yours. Your model as some nice textures, but Antivyrus Gunstar's Mesh looks much more like the movie Gunstar. I hope you don't take offense to this, but I see a few differences in your mesh compared to his.

lol np man... just showing off
