Title: so i'm thinking about wireless internet
Post by: Tus-XC on January 15, 2006, 02:31:45 pm
Like the kind you can get through ur cellphone (or in my case, a pc card).  here is something i'm looking into

http://onlinestorez.cingular.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phones/cell-phones.jsp?v=1&q_categoryId=2283000008&q_deviceId=cdsku9870019&WT.svl=mod1

However i don't know to much about this stuff, or if there are better alternatives.  I mainly want it because i'm sick and tired of being stuck behind this academy network and not being able to play any of my favorite games (ie sfc, DoD, Halo) online.  so if anyone knows anything about this stuff let me know, i would be indebted to ya :)

Depends on the provider. There is a signifigant amount of lag involved with any wireless provider...so in general they aren't a very good idea for multiplayer games.

Some providers give you unilimited usage for 40-50 bucks a month..some charge as much as 80. Make sure you know what you're buying, and also the fact that the speed probably won't match most cable setups.

If you can get cable or DSL, you probably should.

Both Sprint PCS and Nextel offer PCMCIA cards for high speed internet access...something like 60 bucks a month for unlimited. Bandwidth is around 128-200kbps
