OK, what do you think of the secondary? If it's ok, I was thinking of texturing the bottom bay...what do you think? Right now she comes in at 2152 polies.

Oooh! Ooooh! Gimmie! I like! *grin*

This is looking good, Sandman, and thank you very much for attemping construction for me. I really appreoicate it. Beginning to take shape very nicely, so I can't wait to see the final product! (but, of course, I will...*smile*)

Thanks also to MP for highlighting the differences.

Keep on with the updates!

Hey, no problem, Sandman.

I've waited this long for her, I can wait another few weeks. I'm just trying to strike the balance between being too pushy and completely disinterested, so let me know if I cross the line.

Still looking forward to seeing more of her!

Hopefully it won't take weeks lol. :P I reshaped the aft end of the secondary...looks closer...having a hard time getting the lower bay cutout...leaves it empty. Anyone with suggestions on how to do it without boolean would be appreciated. Here's a pic showing the reshaped hull...

Boolean 101  rofl....

If your using the Boolean Tool and it leaves a nasty Hole then its because you have meshing errors... Normally an vertice overlap or a loose face or somthing.... these can be identified by running the STL Checker in the modifier List.. it will identify them by giving the errors a red border.... you can then target weld the problem errors.. make sure their are no empty faces.... as a boolean on an primitive object with one face empty can lead to hollow cutouts.. One you have fixed all errors.. run the checker again and keep repeating this process until you have no errors.

Then collapse the STL from the modifier stack and convert it to  poly or mesh then run your boolean again. ;)

Alternatively leave the hole where it is.. select the outside of the border of the hole hold shift then drag into the model... follow this by capping the hole and the shape will be made... but the errors will still be there if you need to run the boolean again.. but its much quicker!!  ;D

If you have problems email the mesh to me and I'll fix her up for you and send it back..

markduanedavies@btinternet.com

Hope this helps Sandy buddy  ;)

Hey Sandman, its really looking good and a lot like the Schematic.  The only thing I can think of that might be a tad off is the Bridge.  It looks just slightly too small in your mesh.  Can anybody else confirm my opinion on this?

Sent the mesh to markyd...i can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I run the stl checker, correct the errors and still empty space after boolean :smackhead: ...then I tried the other method and must not understand cause it didn't work either :help:. As soon as I get it back it should be pretty quick, only a couple 3 days at most. ;)

Wow Sandman, this looks fantastic! I'm honestly thrilled by the spot-on job you're doing here, as she looks really great. I can't wait to take a few beauty shots of my own for my site!

Fallen_Warrior did bring up a small point that I do agree with, though:

Quote
the bridge dome looks good to me it looks like its missing the ledge thing just under it though

It looks like it's the same sensor platform as on the bottom of the saucer rather than an actual TOS bridge module. But apart from that she looks fab. I guess it really was a challenge to get the rear hull and lower shuttlebay spot on, so thank you so much for taking the time and getting the help to do it right.  :notworthy: :notworthy: :woot: :rwoot:

Well, it's np to change the bridge dome...but the schematic ain't really right either, which is what I made it to, minus the turbo-lift shaft at rear. :P I usually tweak things as I texture, 'cause that's when I usually find errors...matter of fact, next update will have new dome...that way I can texture it at same time. ;) ;D

Dang...I took time off...actually just haven't had the time...move out of Cali failed but lost everything...getting back to where we was has been hard and still ongoing...but lo-and-behold...I still have this on my HD and I think I'll try to finish her. WARNING...no work been done for over a year so REALLY rusty...you'll probably be able to tell the difference...but at least after I finish her and release, one of the good textureres will be able to make her look good. :P

Post by: Sandman3D on June 05, 2007, 01:29:29 am
Whew!!! Took me a couple of days to remember how to map and apply textures...let alone do the textures, lol. :P Here's a shot of what I have for the neck so far...starting to come backto me but if you have a suggestion, PLEASE send me a message explaining how to do it...I've forgotten alot...took me an hour to figure out how to map the dang thing...kept getting the wrong texture applied. ::)

Anyway, here's a look at where I'm at...hard to believe that a year ago I could have had it done in a couple of days, rather than taking that long to do one little thing...but at least I'm trying to finish her, and I hope y'all wont be too hard on me...this is my therapy and if I get too much bs I'll probably chuck it all, lol. ;) :P Seriously though, if you have a suggestion, I would really like a pm telling me how to do it...if your not a modeler or texturer, please feel free to make suggestions, but realize I might not take the advice...individual art interpretation and all that. ::)

nice ship  ;D

is it a battlecruiser?

first: i think the ship would be bether with a deflector dish

two: the colector buser (the tipe of the warp engines) seem a bit weird.

Hi Bernard

its a interesting ship :)

inless you got drones, a shuttle carrier is not very good in combat no?

Uhhhh...that blue thing on the front of the hull is the deflector dish...dang that was done before my hiatus...don't tell me you couldn't tell! :P Seriously though, I think you mean an actual dish like a modern radar dish...could do one like that, but as I understand it this falls about the same time frame as the Ent.A, kind of a cross between TOS and TMP.

As to it's effectiveness in combat, remember, Starfleet is more about exploration than combat, so it stands to reason that there would be ships that were more non-combatants than we see in the series and movies. As for game use, you could always re-classify her as a special ops carrier :-\ Anyway, I hope to get more done tonight...remembering more and more, but it still seems to be like pulling the knowledge from molasses....super ssslllooowwww.... ::)

Hello,

I realize this is a very old topic, but I'm Mark Wilson...the original designer of the U.S.S. Santee and founder of Federation Frontiers...and I just recently stumbled on this site doing some random searches on my designs.

I've been very honored to see some of the work others have created based on my designs, and decided to join the forum.

Does anyone know if the above model was ever finished?  I'd love to see how it turned out.

Also, I noticed a couple of my other designs in other topics along with a few questions.  If anyone would like I can answer those or anything else.

Some of you have had some very kind words regarding my work, and I appreciate them very much.  Hope you're all still here!

Thanks.

Mark

Welcome.

Sadly, I believe that sandman has moved on to other things. He hasn't been on the forums in over two years :(

I invite you to start a thread, post some schematics or what not. People might pick up the designs and have some fun :)

Agreed.. but I think I still have Sandman's private email address.. will see if I can raise a Sandman.  ;)

(It'd be nice to have him back in here, just spotted Nannerslug the other day as well).  :D

(edit: email sent to Sandman.. as well as pataflafla, Nannerslug and a couple of other names from the past.. you don't realize how much you miss someone until you're looking through your address book and you see their name scroll by.  :)

Hope to get a response, but we'll see..

Sucks that modelers vanish, but I hope the guy (sandy) comes back...   his ideas always provided insperation, and his models were getting so good before he vanished.  :-\
