Good by my friend
You weren’t a terribly smart dog, but you were the most loyal and trustworthy dog I have had for a long time. Snowball you were a dog’s dog.
From time to time you smelled like a dead animal or a big pile of crap but still all you asked for was a scratch behind the ears and the occasional belly itch. I could count on you every time I came home to be there. Even the times you had been on the receiving end of a kick from a cow or horse you would drag yourself up to greet me at the front door.
I lost count of the times you had been kicked by a horse or cow and I really wish I could have looked at you one more time and said ‘little buddy you have to pull through this’ you pushed your luck one time to many today. I will miss you everyday I come home from now on and you are not waiting for me in the driveway blocking me from pulling in while you roll on the ground in front of me or drag your belly over the ground for one last good itch. No more smelling like a skunk, No more protecting me every time I open the door to go outside whether I needed it or not.
The funny part about this little dog is he was stray that someone dropped off about 5 years ago. This little dog was a mutt, a pure and simple mutt. He was a brave but stupid dog he lost every fight he had ever gotten in. I didn’t even want this dog to stay. He was the type of dog that grows on you. No matter how hard his life was he was one of those dogs that was loyal until the end.
Every time I went outside he was there for me.
I don’t know if there is an afterlife for dogs little buddy but I pray you are resting in a warm field out of the rain. A pasture of cows and horses to chase, and maybe a chicken coup for you to raid everyone once and again.
Rest in Peace Snowball 3-16-2006

Sorry to hear of your loss. :'(
I have never been able to have a dog and probably never will, but I just love them all to bits.

"Just this side of Heaven is a place called The Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor, those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing, they miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent, the eager body quivers. Suddenly they begin to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, their legs carrying them faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together......."

There I will once again meet Toby, Ralston, Rhett, Loki, and possibly a few more by the time I pass.
It really sucks to lose a friend and companion.
Sorry for your loss, Sten.

Sorry about your dog Sten. Most of the dogs I know are better company than most of the people I know. I'm sure Snowball had a better life because of you, and your life was better because of him.
