Hello, this is Carlos' daughter. I am wondering if one of his extremely intelligent and technologically savvy friends can answer a question for me...I want to install a home security system using broadband, as I do not require a home telephone. I am looking for the most inexpensive service provider or an alternative suggestion. I appreciate your time!!! Thanks in advance.

What do you want it to do, and why broadband?
If you want to go remote cameras etc, then I understand the need, but if you want basic intrusion / fire, then broadband isn't buying you anything because a thief can still cut the line like a phone line.
Take a look at self-contained cellular alarms. The thief can't get to the transmission point and disable it.

All the home security systems that I am aware of require the use of a telephone to work. I suppose it *might* work under that broadband telephone service like Vonage, but you would probably have to ask to be sure, since the home security system siezes control of the phone line when you activate it.
To really be honest with you, it takes the police at least 45 min on average to respond to a home silent alarm, so a person who knows what he's doing can steal you blind in that time peroid.
I suggest you also have a audible alarm added to the system. In the very least, thiefs don't like going through your home when there is a 50db alarm blaring.
