Title: Who here can port aramda ships?
Post by: Starforce2 on July 09, 2006, 10:47:07 pm
I have a shipyard bash from an intrepid suacer and nacelles for a mobile shipyard, in aramda sod formatt. It's a free use model, but I cannot import it.

What format are you trying to export it to?

There is a program that came out about a year ago that imports most third party sods, it is called "CV" it was free and was created by an SFC/Armada modder, Rob Arnold. You can find it here: http://www.frost-works.com/stc/conversionversions/CVArchive/CV0.7.5/index.html

The program will convert directly from *.mod to *.sod or *.sod to *.mod. If you are looking to edit the model itself, you can convert the *.sod to *.mod and then import the *.mod into MilkShape (if that is what you use).

If you are using someone else's work, please be sure to check their permission's policy.

Ok, and that explains that strange file I found over here that I was expecting to unzip some kind of carrier class...

Are you sure about that?
From my experience, the *.mod which saved by CV cannot be imported to Milkshape.

that intrepid mobile shipyard thing has already been released for SFC itc over at battleclinic

So that leaves me to wonder which dork in outalance sent me the armada version instead of the ported one ;D Seriously, who do I smack? *looks around at FW and MP*

I have not run into that problem. I converted nearly all of the stock Armada ships that CV would open, converted them to *.mod, and imported them into MilkShape. Maybe there are different versions. Prehaps if you import a 3rd party *.sod that has several mesh groups, it will not import into MilkShape. Armada Models can have many many groups but only 4 textures, however, the Milkshape *.mod importer can only import a limited amount of groups per *.mod file. That is my only guess as to what the problem may be.

I wonder if it'd port some from modders. I could do my own ports from major payne ships when he sends them over.

I have done some, I had done it with some of Captain Fingers ships (for my own unpublished use of course). I have done several others as well.

captain fingers...that name sounds familiar. Does he not allow reuse of his work or have you simply not bothered to ask?

All his readmes say free use so long as credit is given. I have never re-published is stuff, and of course, I don't ask any permissions if the stuff will remain on my computer only. You should look him up, he has some good low-poly stuff. I particularly like his Romulan Bird of Prey from the Enterprise Series.
