Not so new game out there but I'm having a blast playing it...
The game is called BattleMaster. It's a Massively Multiplayer Web Based game. Set in the Middle Ages time period, a player controls up to three characters (but only two on any one continent), these characters are known as Troop Leaders and command a Force of men, ranging from 1 to 80 or more. You can choose to command a legion of Infantry (armed with swords and shields), Archers, Cavalry, or a mix of Infantry and Archers. As you participate in battles, your honor and prestige grows, which also expands the number of troops you can command. As it stands at the moment, you can only command ONE unit, whether that is going to change or not is unknown at the moment.
I am currently only using one of my avatars. I have enlisted into the army of Tara on the continent of Atamara. A dozen other factions exist on the continent, and several other continents exist. Turns only take about 5 to 10 minutes to play at the most. There are two turns a day, each one set to go at a little after 12 EST. The game mechanics are well thought out and run very smoothly. They are constantly adding new content.
Check them out here: http://battlemaster.org
A new game about to enter its Beta Stage:
Set in the BattleTech universe. (forty foot tall war machines that can take out entire cities with little effort) This game is strategic only, the entire Inner Sphere is open to conquest, you command a force ranging from a Company (12 BattleMechs) to Multiple Brigades (thousands of BattleMechs). Your goal is whatever you want to make it, but the ultimate goal should be the conquest of the Human Sphere. For those with a background knowledge of the universe, the game is set to take off in 3025, as the Third Succession War is coming to a close. Political Intrigue, Overt and Covert Military Actions, the Inner Sphere could erupt into a Fourth Succession War at any moment. Adding fuel to the fire, all the Deep Periphery players are available, including medium sized nations at the near periphery to the Inner Sphere, to long lost smaller sized nations, to the Clans, waiting to reforge the lost Star League with the blood of any that oppose them. There is currently no time table to the beginning of the Beta Stage, although it is expected to start by the end of the year.

There is no charge to play either game.

OHHHHHH.... Daddy Likes!
I was a Front Commander for House Marik when Mechwarrior was on GEnie.
-
That's good...we could use some more Marik Players... ;D
-
Steiner Combat Rule #1: Outnumber the enemy.
Steiner Combat Rule #2: With Assault 'Mechs.
-
Does it cover the Clan invasion?
-
That is entirely up to the Clan Players.
-
Interesting, I shall have to check them out.
-
If you have any questions, flag me down, (At least for Succession Wars, It'd be like the blind leading the blind for BattleMaster) I wrote most of the FAQ for Succession Wars, so if its not clear...yell at me. :)
-
Sent ya' a PM.:)
-
Replied to you...in both places...Captain. ;)
-
When can you sign up to join the fun on Succession Wars? It's time to dust off my old Steiner uniform and see if it still fits. ;)
-
Anytime you want. 8)
-
I tried signing up and never received the email to activate the account
-
I think I might get into Secession Wars. Where is everyone at so I can find a faction?
-
Wow.... this is sweet looking... reminds me of a game we once held back in the hayday of our table top games

All the units I applied for are mercs, so I can hook up with anyone...unless I get my 5th choice. Then I'm a scurvy pirate.:)

Dracho: Check to see that your spam filter didn't get it. If that's not the case, I'll talk to speck when I see him tonight about resending it to you. Just give me the name you went to sign up with.
Carney: I am the Mercenary Unit Khorsakov's Cossacks, at this point El Roy has not confirmed anyone else from this forum to thier positions but it looks like from sign up, that La'ra is going Mercenary, and Father Ted is going Steiner.

tried to sign as Dracho... email dail@swbell.net
SPAM didn't get it
-
Gonna ask for the 242nd Hussars cause they got their own jumpships.... :flame:
-
All right, I'll talk to him tonight, Dracho.
EDIT: Dracho, I just looked at the user list and your name isn't on there, you might need to try again.
-
If I get it... and you need a ride somewhere.... let's talk price.... ;D
-
hehe...I've got plenty of JumpShips of my own, I've got three Overlord DropShips, with a Monolith to carry them. ;D
-
If you have mechs for hire, the dropships will show up.

For those still looking...

I started playing Battletech after learning how to play SFB. Veteran players in our group were a bit stunned that a noob was kicking their arses and taking names. :2gun:
-
That is something I miss about the 90s...we were playing Table-Top BattleTech at least once a week... then we all grew up and moved on... :'(

Yeah, but I am looking for side profits as well....
I got 2 dropships (not sure of the type but probably Overlords by the weight and # of mechs they can carry) and 3 jumpships to carry them.... might as well have a jump ship or two earning money while the troops are sloughing thru the mud....
48 mechs, 12 aeromechs, and 24 vehicles round out my numbers....
Not a small unit... but not exactly large either...
-
Actually...the 242nd Hussars...I have their roster here...somewhere...let me look through it for you. ;D
Ok...I don't have it...must have been before I archived my PMs...
From what I remember, through contact with the player that had them before you (he moved on to a Marik Position IIRC) your DropShips are Excaliburs. I don't remember if we talked about what your JumpShips are.

That would be great... love to know what everything actually is....
And remember... I will provide shipping for a fee... confidentiality guaranteed.... for a price....

Any idea how to contact him/her?
-
He is still a mercenary, his command is the Narhal's Raiders.
There's two ways of doing this: One you can contact him, his callsign is havoc, he may or may not have the information with him now.
Two: you can contact Mendrugo, he assigned all the forces in the game, and after you have been confirmed for the position by El Roy, he will give you your complete roster, which may be more detailed than the one havoc could provide you with.
-
kewl
I will wait on Mendrugo for a bit
-
BTW, just wanted to say thanks for letting me know about this Battlemaster game... it is fun & rather addicting
-
Okay, once into the succession wars web site, how do I actually play?

Apparently, the game is not started yet... but I would like to also know that... I think it may be much like Battlemaster where you direct everything... where to go, when to go, what to do once you get there... then the computer calculates winners and losers.
-
Aye...it is much like BattleMaster, although instead of turns being twice a day (as it is in BattleMaster) turns will be once a week. (one Game month)
The biggest hiccup to starting the game is the site developer, speck. He spends nine months out of the year at school. (which is fine by me) but then when summer rolls along and he has three and a half months to work on it, he goes off to three conventions, each of which takes two weeks of prep (for him) and another week of time. Leaving him with only six weeks here and there during the summer to actually DO anything with the game. Every summer its the same thing, and its starting to get annoying. However, Mendrugo (the game designer) has hit upon a solution that, if it works, will allow us to start WITHOUT speck, probably by October.

Can he fix the login section? I'm still saddled with a bizarre alpha-numeric password that I'd love to change to something I can remember, or even better, make it remember me after I login once.
-
You should be able to change your password by going to the profile link at the top of the screen. It will ask you for your old password and then get you to confirm your new password twice.
-
Oops, I was referring to the Battlemaster login. My bad.
BTW, Bear, they updated the faction list, apparently last night. We both got our first choice. ;)
-
Not sure on that one... I think you can do it via Edit Data...
For whatever reason the web site has an aversion to IE, Firefox will remember your password if you want it to.
-
Heh. Got the Stealthy Tigers. They were always one of my favorite BT units.

I got Selvin Kelswa(what the hell kinda name is that anyway?), Duke of the Tamar Pact, so we're both Steiner. Excellent!
Facing the DC, (in the immortal words of Bill and Ted) "Bogus..." :2gun:
-
They got us outnumbered.
The poor bastards. :rwoot: :2gun:
-
I've already got some strategery working, even though I don't know exactly what's at my disposal. I got my roster yesterday, and it's huge. With merc units, I can start thinking about offensives, or a defense that will give Kurita a serious black-eye.
-
The Tigers are on Loric. Is that in the Tamar Pact? If so, we should start discussing my fee and what you want blown the hell up! ;D
-
Your Archon, HRRNighthawk, is a very good player, I've dealt with him before when he was going to play a Mercenary, and I continue to deal with him now that he heads the Lyran Commonwealth as PIC of the Mercenary Guild. You guys are in good hands... kick some Kuritan butt.
-
I don't understand this online game at all. You sign up for something that doesn't seem to exist yet, and the previews of the interface look like little more than some simple webpages with some faction symbols. Any explanation of how this thing is supposed to work would be of interest to me.

'There's great chaos under the heavens, and the situation is excellent'-Uncle Duke(yeah, I'm a Republican, but Duke rules!)

I don't think it's up to me who get's raises among the merc units, but Stealthy Tigers would be first on my list. They've always been loyal to Steiner and deserve a raise. No promises, but I'll see what I can pull with the Archon.
In the meantime, start looking at good defensive positions, as well as where you want to spend a couple of months campaigning. We didn't come to stare at each other.... :rollingpin:
-
Just remember, I got some spare jumpships if you need to move something to a near by DC planet quickly and quietly. :flame:

Its essentially a replacement for Play By Email type games that many of us on this site played in the past. You enter your orders on these webpages, then when the GM clicks, process turn, it follows your orders as well as it can (which is why orders are button based instead of text based) Battles are fought in a computer, and your pages are updated. Then you repeat the process. Grapically it is supposed to be very limited to allow for even Dial-up users to play on it with little loss of control ability.
I may get into more details when I get back from work...assuming I don't crash as soon as I get in.
