I'm curious about how hull damage may or may not affect my ship's performance. I've been flying a lot of Single Player conquest campaigns to sort of practice flying different races. To simulate what being kept constantly in the field might be like for a ship I don't repair hull damage until I've lost around 50% of my hull.
Apart from simply dying faster, does hull loss affect the performance of ship's systems in any way?

It's just free hits. The first 40 or so internals on a light cruiser is going to hit mostly hull. The next 40 is going to hit mostly power.
Hull should not be confused with your ship's health bar. The health bar is based on what weapons you have operational. So you could have no power and all your weapons and it would still show a health of 100%, even though you are just a few hits from death.

In the words of the infamous Mr. Mackey, "It's bad, m'kay!!"
;D

Hull hits also take off marines, just like other internals. Of course if you resupply the marines between missions you can still keep your count at full.

Coolness, guys. Thanks for the information. While I've got your collective ear, what is the effect of having your computer knocked out? As far as I can tell it doesn't do anything to my ECM production. Does it do something to my weapons accuracy?

if you mean sensors, when you loose all of the sensors, it becomes difficult if not impossible to obtain a lock on to a target
