I laughed so hard when I first saw this. I mean, I loved the first show when I was growing up. It taught me a lot of good old fashioned liberal values...but then this new show came out and I fell in love again. It's like your first love as a teenager and then falling in love with an adult. Oh so different the feelings and depth of emotion!

The original BSG show's ratings were good, but in order to justify the enormous production cost it literally had to be a top 10 show every week. That is pretty unsustainable for a SciFi show in any era. The fans protested so much that they persuaded the network to come back with a much lower budget version a year after the original BSG cancellation. The low-budget Galactica:1980 show really turned out bad and that ended the franchise.
Not until the development of CGI effects did any SciFi show become more financially viable in the late 1980s onwards.
