A friend brought this to my attention and it captured my imagination to the point that I just had to poll the gang. I wasn't sure where this belonged so move it if you need to.
Does anyone think Mace Windu had the words "Bad MotherF*cker" written on his lightsaber?
This is just one of those little questions that preys on your mind.

I was kind of waiting for his "righteous brother" speech when he was about to kill Palpatine.

No, it said "Stick it to the man."

I have heard that one of the conditions that he laid down to play the part of Mace Windu was to have a purple light saber...
Until that point, only the colors were red, blue, and green were 'canon'.

Yes, that and that he didn't want to "go out like a punk".
-
I think part of the deal to play Mace included some kind of spectacular death scene.
-
Back in the Mplayer days I tried to form a SL fleet with the tag BMF but the admins were not hip with it. :(
-
the color is determained by the type of crystal used in the sabre when knights of the republic can around they exlplained the blue green yellow according to the class of jedi
-
That's not canon though, at least not movie-canon.

Mace is the ONLY one in the Star Wars universe to have a purple saber- part of his contract with Lucas. That turned me off to him from the start- the arrogance of him !!! He should've been 'offed' like the punk he is- like they did to Darth Maul, without fanfare or reservation.
GL must be getting old (and greedy) because his writing is catering to the kids of society who have no real imagination and just want to see the good guys always win by whatever means necessary.
Thank God the franchise is over, I can't stand the 'fluff' anymore !!!
-
Actually, Star Wars canon is much less strict than Star Trek. Some of the expanded universe stuff is considered 'official'.
And the first person with a purple lightsaber was Mara Jade, in the 'Mysteries of the Sith' expansion to Jedi Knight.

I agree with the arrogance part, and never cared for him. I realize he actually can act(within his strongpoints), but would rather not see it.

LOL funny you should ask that question, during the Mirror Mirror server I used a signature of Mace windu with the Jules afro and the saying "Have you seen my lightsaber?...Its the one with......."

I'm not sure prequelling a prequel counts, but with that in mind Windu and Mara musta mined the same planet for their crystals (and told nobody else where they fonund em), unles the two of em figured out how to mount 2 color crystals in a hilt where everyone else has only one.
again- arrogance (we all know about Mara Jade's connections)
;)
B'sides, I won't touch the actor part- that BMF is a great actor !

I'd heard somewhere that the "normal" color lightsabers use a natural power crystal. The ones like Mace Windu's use some kind of artificial crystal. I don't remember where I got that (probably one of my infrequent reads of the books) but it seems kind of logical.

Mysteries of the Sith was out before the prequels. It's set later, though: Post Zahn trilogy.
In both the books and the games, there's lots more lightsaber colors than in the movies. Most of the books are considered canon, and some of the games (notably Knights of the Old Republic and the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series) are as well.

What's the idea behind lightsaber color? They all seem to work the same.
-
the books are good a source for that stuff since lucas has final approval on all novels he even steped in to have solos son killed off cause he thought it would confuse fans for the movies for his preequal ie anakin solo was written off
oh and i dont believe it was written in is contract for his sabre he simply asked lucas i seen it in one of the docomentarys besides you cant really musle a guy around who can fund his own movies.

Lightsabers usually have two crystals. One's sort of the emitter crystal...that's the one that gives it it's color. The color of that crystal determines the blade color, I think.

I'm going to put in my two cents here. In the Jedi Academy books, before his contact with the shade of Exar Kun destroyed him, Gantoris, one of Luke's students built a lightsaber with a violet blade.
