Post by: Don Karnage on February 23, 2007, 11:13:01 am
i forgot to ask about that so here it is

st staples business depot i wanted to buy a cable for the printer but all that was left was those gold plated, so before i payd 24$ for it i want to know if its worth it?, i got one that is not gold plated (its for another computer and printer) and well it seem fine, i don't print much so is it worth it or not?

I'd say, not so much.  I personally believe that unless you're talking about audio cable, gold plating is just a good way to take your money.  Granted, gold is a better conductor than copper, but unless you're running a printer about a mile away connected directly to your computer, who cares?

yea that what i was thinking, its a printer and its close to the computer and i don't print much and don't need fancy stuff, mostly text and rarely a picture.

It makes absolutly no difference. It's just a way to put a premium on the component price and milk extra dollars out of you.

In some cases, it MIGHT be a good idea for video/audio component cables (The monster series is a GREAT cable for your HDTV/DVD player), but makes no sense for USB.
