Just popping in to say hello, some great models being created in here, some fine artists, I am a new complete newbee when it comes to any of this sort of stuff but it looks like allot of fun, I know that it wont happen over night but i hope to join in and show some things that at least resemble ships soon.. lol
I love your work, and can only hope that in the coming months i can learn some techniques and some tips and tricks too.
See you round guys.
-
Welcome aboard mate. Look forward to seeing your contributions when you get ready. In the interim, feel free to ask question and learn. As your pointer out, there are some very talented modellers here.
-
Thanks fellas... yeah, i will ask plenty of questions and pick plenty of brains at every oppertunity lol
-
Posting has been slow around here, we need a new guy so that we can have something to post about.
So are you just getting into modelling, or are you looking to get the models into an SFC game as well?
What SFC game are you looking to get models into?
What software do you have access to?
What is your first questiong?
Where do you want to start?
-
Hmmmm the Bar you say . . . :drink: :drinkinsong:
Im a complete newbee, I have on old version of Max v4.2 which im playing around with, and an old copy of photoshop V6. I have learnt some basic box modelling and mapping, I love the SFC series and BC but not legacy :puke:
I have a burning question after studying some of WZ models, how do you use multiple materials like that? or am i not making any sense lol ;)

Hello dude.
First comes first. get yourself familiarized with the modelling tools, and get to know them well, then we'll move to mapping.
Oh, and if you have MSN, add me, if you don't, get it and add me lol.
-
Lol... ok thanks fellas,
I will be sure to get ahold of MSN ASAP, and I will continue to get used to the modelling tools as you have suggested.. thank you.

Can I jump on this bandwagon too?
I've played around with milkshape, just done some minor kit-bashing, but I'm looking to learn more. What I really want is to lay my hands on a copy of Max that is compatible with the .mod format. I've done a little looking around, to no avail. Any help in that area would be appreciated.
As for my areas of interest, I'm strictly SFC: OP in where I want to contribute to the community. I'm also an old school SFB player, so I would like to direct my efforts toward the TOS / pre-TOS area of modelling. I've always been a Fed captain, but I see plenty of Fed models out there. I would focus more on creating models for races that are less represented.

Max version 3x,4x and 5x all work with SFC. The export utilities can be found at Nightsoft.
Using multiple maps instead of one requires unwrapping it to different places.
-
Discreet has max listed at $3,195.00 USD and Adobe has Photoshop listed at $309.00 USD (stores near me),now i'm not saying everyone but i'm sure there are some that got their copies free from another source.
From just browsing the internet FULL versions of MAX 3-9 are available and damn near all FULL versions of Photoshop can be found.
I don't condone getting it that way but there out there.
-
Yo Red_Sharif,
I strictly use Milkshape for modelling and have been able to push it pretty far. Untill you get your copy of Max, I would be happy to help you with any Milkshape questions.
-
Before you dive into max try gmax. For SFC purposes it'll do everything max will do. You can export .md3 format and import it into Milkshape to export to SFC.
look at this thread. http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163365145.0.html There's lots of freeware here including useful 2D programs.

as for acquiring the software legality heres some handy pointers:
. Computer Fairs (not just a great place for hardware, i picked up a copy of PSP9 for £25/$48)
. Library sales (not only can you pick up some handy "modeling for dummies" but sometimes they sell CD's, Movies and Software)
. Ebay (people will sell anything for anything if they lose intrest in it also great for private stores/shops to sell excess/old stock off)
. Sites such as Amazon (people sell older copies of software for about half the price)
Hope this helps
Hey, just to throw in a note, my copy of 3dsMax 3.1 was picked up at a government auction for $25 CDN, so look for those as well.. usuallly that sorrt of thing will be thrown into a "assorted software" box because they won't know what it's used for..
-
hell even yardsales work well for finding software. lol got a box of stuff and it had PSP7 and max4 in it for 5 bucks usa lol ;D
and welcome to the show
-
I got Photoshop 6 for £89, in Mostyn market in North Wales.. I got max 4.2 off my uncle from liverpool, He uses v9 now and gave me his copy, granted I dont own my own licence but he reckons thats ok, aslong as im not trying to make a profit or actually use the software for anything that would end up being commercially viable in any respect. Aslong as it is just a hobby i can sit on thbe wire and smile :)
And I am :)

Hi I was looking through the internet today and noticed the Dynaverse forum, the modelling section appealed to me greatly, I have been making models for about 6 months now for my own pleasure in sfcIII and will gladly share with this community.. just thought i would jump on the freight train here and say hi before you guys see me posting comments and thinking "WTF?? who is that??"
So this is me... hope to chat and learn some new stuff while im here, I can see advice is given freely and that is fantastic, loads of great work being thrown out, so many different standards that its comfortable to comment on and join in.
So I hope to speak to you all in the future ;)
P.s.. I will post a wip on somthing im working on later for some feedback... thanks.

I serve in the british army. and i love trek, i own the original dvd's for TOS, TNG, DS9, TAS, MOVIES... - I need ENT, VOY... I own Nearly every trek game ever released on a PC except for Judgment rights, cos im not paying £100 + on EBAY for it :)
Im using £2800 pounds worth of alienware laptop (in green ;D) Spec is stupidly good, and awsome for games and modelling.. so im very happy with it :)

Any new work is always welcome here as well as posters.
Questions can be a bit difficult to answer at times as there tends to be multiple ways to do things, but they are welcome as well.
Never worry about your abilities compared to others, some ppl have been here longer than dirt and have developed those skills over time. We all started somewhere on our way to where ever.
-
Thanks for the advice, i hope to slip in comfortably, into ur system here :)
-
Thanks, I have added you to my msn... Bar eh... i like bars lol...
-
Hello all.. Im new, I can make very basic models, hope to share them with you.
software I use is.
For textures:- The GIMP v 2.2 (Free)
http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=gimp-win&filename=gimp-2.2.14-i586-setup-1.exe&use_mirror=ovh
For Modelling:- Discreet GMAX (Free)
http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax
Additional Moddeling & Conversion: Milkshape3D 1.7.10 US $25
http://chumbalum.swissquake.ch/ms3d/download.html - currently version 1.8.1
http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax - tempest utility
http://www.richdiesal.map-craft.com/tutorials/vol_cm.html - conversion tutorial
(basically you make the model in gmax (which is just like 3ds max but free) save the model, open up the tempest plugin, open your model then export to md3, you can then import into milkshape)
So I get the ability to use really powerfull software, for the measly fee of $25.
Hope to speak to you all in the future, and its nice to be here :)

Great work-a-round there. Welcome, if you have any Milkshape questions or SFC modding questions feel free to ask me. For the other software, there are plenty of users with lots of experience. You have a living encyclopedia of SFC modding right here in the form of the SFC community. I look forward to seeing your work . . be sure to post lots of pics!
