Title: Permanent Ban on Planets?
Post by: Hexx on July 08, 2007, 01:08:00 pm
Soo extrapolating from something Chuut mentioned- whether he meant it to the degree I took it for i don't know but..

Have a permanenet (or 1 day/7 days/whatver) ban on players who are defeated on a planet hex.

This would
-reward PVP with more than the "oh I killed another of Chuut's 900pp DF's"
it wouldn't give the DV shifts Letpons asking for, but it woul definitely be a noticable effect of PVP
-add some sort of strategic planning for how you're going to attack/defend planets
-Add some incentive for players who aren't that confident about their PVP skills (Since evetually they may eb the only one's remaining who can attack/dfend the planet)
- Add (perhaps) an elemant of risk to the killer fleets.
ie- DH,Dizzy and t00l grab themseleves the biggest ships hty can, attack the planet. 2 Defenders mange to kill t00l, then flee.
t00l is now not allowed to attack the planet for the rest of the server (or x amount of time) defenders are off for an hour- but are allowed back on after that hour.

Anything obvious that I;ve missed as to why this wouldn't work?

We don"t have enough players to restrict playing any further. I would be happy with no disengaging, no penalties, no pvp VCs.  Lots of carnage, space debris and fun.  The DNs on AOTK3 were cheap enough that DN losses weren't a tragedy.  The Heavy Iron rules meant a balance of ship types.

Alternatively, how about you aren't banned but you have to play in the game-assigned replacement ship for an hour...or its replacement, then its replacement...

Agreed, the same reason why OOB would be pointless at this point when you have less than 30 people playing the game at any given moment.

No matter what you do, D2 is a game about hexx-flipping.   Just accept that and keep this in mind when thinking of new servers.

That is unless braxton can get that idea of mine working . . .

I'm flattered but...really. I mean I know I have a hugely disproportionate influence on the game, but still..

No it would have hex flipping, but it would harken (word for the day) back to my old ideas of many smaller VP hexes, rather than the 3 or 4 you guys like to use.
