Apple's new iMacs seem nice, and you can choose any screen type you want: Glossy, big Glossy, or bigger Glossy
Personally, I prefer the matte screens. The glare and reduced viewing angle of glossy bugs me.
Is it me, or are there glossy fans out there?
For some reason, I didn't quite believe the salesman who told me he loved them.....

the glossy screens have richer colors and richer blacks, they are excellent for people who want good playback from video, dvds etc, and makes great for many consumer needs. the matte screens are better at true color and have less image variation if you change positions in relation to the monitor. half a dozen of one and six of the other- each has their strengths.

That's all true Clark,
but I'm after what people prefer.
Example: I personally don't like glossy. For some reason my eye gravitates to the surface reflection. I've a hard time not being visually distracted by it.
I think it's like those posters with the hidden patterns (where you defocus your eyes to see the hidden image). I can only defocus on those briefly before I loose the image and only see the surface pattern.
Is glossy or matte a buying criteria for you folks? Why are glossy starting to come out and who wants them?

The glare reduction from a matte screen far outweighs any supposed advantage to glossy imo.

I keep my place pretty dark, so a glossy screen would work pretty well. I own both, a matte LCD and a glossy CRT. No issues with either in regards to glare or visibility. I don't have a preference.

Same here, when I'm on the computer at home generally the area is fairly dark so I prefer the LCD screen to the CRT.
-
My LCD is ridiculously bright, so if I'm in the dark I prefer the CRT. It can be adjusted much much lower while keeping color balance.
CRT = eMachines 17"
LCD = Acer AL1916 19"
