First off, which game are you trying to play online?  SFC2, SFC:OP, or SFC3?

Did you get the beta patch for the access servers?  The D3 access servers were handed over to D.net, so you need to install the beta patch to redirect the game to the new access servers.

If you've already got that beta patch, try enabling DMZ on your router.

Are you able to connect without using the router?
There are just some routers that just wont function properly with Dynaverse connections, while others work perfectly fine.

heh, well if you can, try to connect not behind the router just to test once. Make sure if you have a modem like I have, you also have the ports forwared for D3 on there as well, as some modems, especially newer ones, have some routing functions going on instead of bridging functions. NAT is the function to look under for the modem, and be sure that it is at least set to SUA only if not Full Feature(depending on the model the mode name NAT is in may vary). NAT has always caused problems with connectivity but if your modem does "route" then you need to forward there as well.
Now if you have one of those modems that really doesnt route, and you can connect then its your router. Some routers are better then others, D-link for example seems to not like to connect to D2, yet Linksys seems to be OK with D2. Dont know too much about netgear routers though :/
