Please bow your heads, and according to whatever spiritual belief system you have, think a moment of one of our community.
Yves Nantel, AKA Strafer, passed away this morning around 10:00AM, EST. Yves had been stricken with Cancer, and gave it one helluva fight.

1973 - 2008
In my dealings with Strafer over the last eight years, he was one of the people who continued to justify my belief in the human condition.
He was considerate, compassionate, and seemed to display those qualities in which I find in most of my role models.
He loved this game, loved it a lot. So much so he worked with his close friend FireSoul to create several masterpieces, of which speak of their own. I'll not go into that here, but continue to speak of this individual whom I cared a great deal about. We used to talk on the phone, not that often - mind you -, but often enough for me to really feel like I *know*... or goddammit.. knew him.

One thing I know, if I knew Yves at all, was that he'd want us all to continue to treasure life, and continue to live it. In his Honour, I'm going to quit smoking. Panzer's post I think in THIS thread was what did it, and now with Yves passing away, the reality of such decisions is staring me in the face. Yves, I'm going to do everything I can to continue to live. I already miss you Brother.

I don't know what else to say, because I'm not in a very talkative mood, but please, post your condolences here. Strafer was the best, he will be missed.
May you rest in peace, Captain.

RIP bro.
Never hung out with strafer much or even played with him much but he contributed to the game a whole heck of a lot and seems he was a real likeable guy from what everyone is saying. Makes me sad he's gone. My condolences to his family and to his friends. Always really sucks when you lose someone you love. It's really good to see his friends post here. Some nice reads... and a few really good tributes like Frey quitting smoking. This community is a bunch a pretty cool peeps imo. Strafer had a real positive influence on some of the peeps in this community and that's pretty touching.

It is always tragic to see someone go before their time.
A game community is just taht, a community and the loss of anyone diminishes us all.
Condolences to his friends and family.

I never knew Strafer but from all accounts he must of been a good guy. Condolences to his family and friends. We will always remember him.

In times like this, I remember words that give comfort for friends and family. Losing a member of this community so young gives pause, but we should reflect on the good times, and the contributions he made.
The crew of the space shuttle Challenger honoured us by the manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and 'slipped the surly bonds of earth' to 'touch the face of God.'
Thank you.

Well I never had the chance to know Strafer and now never will have. :(
My condolences to his friends and family as I experienced what they're going through less than 2 years ago after my own father became another Cancer casulty.
I donate, monthly, to International Cancer Research, who support all those front line independant non-pharmacutical company scientists and doctors in the war against Cancer, with funding grants, bursaries, etc.
Some of the breakthroughs, over the years, have been as a result of the work of the independant scientists abd doctors working in hospitals, universities and laboratories all over the world funded by the charity.
The war on Cancer costs and receives very little government funding around the world, so it's up to us to help hit back.

I picked up my Chantix, and I've started it today to quit smoking.
I'm going to do exactly that, live as long as I can so I can tell people about Yves.

May God bless his family and ease their pain. His pain is over, may he rest in peace.
I never knew him, but after reading the posts of those that did, I believe that his passing was a great loss to the SFC community as a whole. The world is a little darker place when decent people are lost.

Weep you no more, sad fountains;
What need you flow so fast?
Look how the snowy mountains
Heaven's sun doth gently waste.
But my sun's heavenly eyes
View not your weeping,
That now lies sleeping
Softly, now softly lies
Sleeping.
Sleep is a reconciling,
A rest that peace begets:
Doth not the sun rise smiling
When fair at even he sets?
Rest you then, rest, sad eyes,
Melt not in weeping,
While (he) lies sleeping
Softly, now softly lies
Sleeping.

May God look over all his friends and family, and may time soon wash away the pain leaving only wonderful memories.

Though I never interacted with him in any way, and am new to this community, I would like to offer condolences to Strafer, his family, and friends. Losing someone close to you is never, ever something easily borne.
-
I never knew this person. In fact I've just started playing Sfc. However from what I see he's help build something special for the community. I really like sfc and the improvements made by fans, and to know that he's contributed to it makes me thankful. There's not much anyone can really say for death, but I want to give condolences to the family and to say that this man was definately special. Everytime I play I'll think of you strafer and be thankful.
-
I'm afraid I got here just a bit too late to actually meet this person. But from reading all your remarks I know he meant a lot to you and he will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

I am sorry to hear that Strafer has died. He was a gentleman. Sigh...I don't know what to say. :'(
