Title: Hardcore Mini Map Campaign
Post by: Pestalence_XC on July 17, 2008, 07:01:05 pm
I just redid a map for a mini campaign.. very small game map

Server starting Mid era .. 2273

There are 3 planets in the center.. 2 core worlds, 1 home world

Not many Open space hexes in Neutral space.. a couple around the planets..

This is designed to be a test platform for the new scripts, however I am adding scripts to the server for homeworld assault, colonization, battle station assault, starbase assault, the XC scripts and the new ED Scripts..

Hed DV is 4 for non planet space.. 8 for Colony Worlds, 12 for Homeworlds

Races adjusted for 2 sided war

F,G,H,M    vs     K,R,L,I

Home hexes have DV of 15

each race has 11 hexes with 230 economy each .. 2 hexes of each race moved to locations within/next to allied space with Colony Worlds on them.. hopefully to help random AI draws for enemy races / combined fleets..

Game speed 8

this small map should allow for more PVP since it is extremely small  11 x 11

Hopefully this will allow for testing the3 scripts in a variety of terrains and pull all the features of the scripts

I have a new installer I am putting up which is the exact same as the last installer.. I do recommend that you use the new installer .. however I will also post a zip of the scripts as well..

Please help me out in testing this setup..

I will have the server up in about 30 min.. just after I post the DL links ...

Good luck

Please post any bugs here.

I need to make a couple adjustments to the map.. and then it is going up live in about 30 min.. I'm going to switch to XP to do some testing myself.

Here is the Installer :

Here are the scripts by themselves

Beauty, the installer worked, the patrol I pulled in a neb r-spa+ vs a F-dn+ was awesome, the a.i. was still predictably dumb tho. Love the small map.

She's down:  Malak and I killed to O CVL was chased by fighters the whole way.
The first fighters didn't die when the ship did. need smarter AI.

Last mission was an ambush, two rom dreads, one ca carrier, and a destoyer (kestral).  I had a small wingman (who even tho was blown up, turn against me later in the mission, might want to look into that as it shouldn't have posted my wingman was turning against me when he was already dead).

end result, I poped the destroyer.  Killed all the fighters, had a couple of internals on all the ships remaining.  (and a big map it was.  took almost 15 minutes to run off the end of it)

Somewhat the same situation here.  There was a light cruiser, heavy cruiser, and a dread.  I had some frigate wing.  I was able to take out the light and heavy cruisers, but we were ambushed by another C8K.  My wing was taken out, and then a 3rd C8K appeared.  I was able to score some internals on one of the dreads, but I turned tail and ran.

Took 10 minutes to get to the border, and about 5 minutes into me running, I got a report that my wing went rogue, and it was already space dust.

Actually, I've had this rogue mission 3 times last night.  Only one though had the message pop up after the ship was destroyed by the enemy before it went rogue.

The other two times when my ally went rogue, I killed it and still finished off the mission.

Been abit of it to me also, I can understand an ally going rogue if it wasn't another fed ship (I am flying fed right now), if given an Orion allie would be more understandable.  Why a ship from your races fleet would go rogue, should be way lower then the chances that seem to show up in this mission.

That said, I like the new missions.  Some you don't even have to fight, but if you start off like some and launch weapons when you come in range, not sure if you would lose that mission but figure you would.

They are good missions so far, just cut the rogue down alittle more for me.

I haven't even been given an ally yet. I had to fight 5 dreds (one a BB) and a PF Tender in one mission where I was "protecting" a SB. In the opposite mission I was placed by myself against 7 ships (2 of them Dreds) to attack a BS.

Exactly how much damage are you supposed to get on those patrol/sabotage missions?

I had one, and just as I needed all my weapons for an alpha strike in a nebula, I find half my weapons are already destroyed, a quarter of my hull strength gone, and a message saying I'm the victim of sabotage.

Now that we have updated scripts.. the installer is updated..

To uninstall the old installer.. go into your OP directory and find the HC_Uninstall.exe and run it.. and then you can DL and run the new installer..

http://warpcore.110mb.com/Downloads/Hardcore_Installer.zip

Alternatively, you can just install the new scripts over the top of the old ones..

Capn Pesty,

Something I've been meaning to ask for years- Should I be installing campaign updates over the campaign files with OP+4 selected in Mod chooser, or the campaign thats going to get updated ??

The reason I ask is I've always edited the modchooser.ini file and deleted files from the modchooser folders manually before installing campaign files (with OP+4 selected) and I didn't know if you've developed an easier procedure recently.

Thanks in advance

How is the database holding up since you are using values higher than 100 per hex? Are there errors in the DB, crashes? Do you have 'broken' hexes? Have you run a DB report and gotten correct hex accounting values yet since activity and hex ownership have changed hands?

I'd be curious to know whether or not we can just assign one hex to an empire with the exact amount of Econ each empire needs and leave all the rest at 0.

So far I have no problems, except for maybe Orion (NPC) .. not setting up the Cartel map properly, their economy is sky high

As for the rest of the races.. economy seems to be OK

Empire Economies
================
          Federation:     2530
             Klingon:     2530
             Romulan:     2530
               Lyran:     2530
              Hydran:     2530
                Gorn:     2530
                 ISC:     2530
               Mirak:     2530
             Neutral:    18400
        Orion cartel:      230
      Korgath cartel:      230
        Prime cartel:      230
   TigerHeart cartel:      230
 BeastRaiders cartel:      230
    Syndicate cartel:      230
    Wyldefire cartel:      230
      Camboro cartel:      230

Max econ (for rank comparison): 18400
Ave econ (for shipyard costs):  2381

Now if I adjust each Cartel for proper space on the map, then the Orion cartel economy will be balanced.. but Orion (NPC) will have 0 Econ

I was thinking of adjusting the map for the Cartels to have 9 hexes and the NPC Orions having 8 spaces with Econ hexes.. and try to balance it out that way with the Economy..

As for DB errors, or broken hexes.. as far as the economy goes, I haven't seen any problems..

I have had 1 complaint of no DV shift on a hex that has 0 economy in neutral hex.. but I think that is either a scripting issue, or an extremely long mission run time..

The shipyards seem to be working just fine.. however I have not run a server with Economy over 250 per hex.. I am not sure where the breaking point is.

The other night I was flying a mission against the AI.  I forgot how long I was in the mission, or what kind of mission it was.

However, when I was finished with the mission, the connection dropped and I wasn't credited for the mission.  No biggy.  Just that the server never came back up.

I assumed you might have taken the server down to install new updated scripts and such and test them, which I am still assuming you did.

In case you didn't, however, I thought I'd take this opportunity to let you know.

I haven't experienced any problems what so ever with the server really, except for a few hexes that don't want to get boosted when you run missions in them.  I think a few of them had bases in them however, so I didn't sweat it.

All I can say is that it took me a while to work a few of those hexes down towards the center of the map.  I liked flying in the nebula hex.  Didn't have to worry about shield reinforcement or scatterpacks.  Rom dreads though really hit hard in those hexes.  But I managed to learn how to kill them.

Well.. the DV of any hex, except for planets, have a max of 4 DV

Planets that are Core Worlds in the middle of the map have a DV of 8

Planet in the middle that is a Homeworld has a DV of 12

The rest of the hexes for the empires have a DV of 15..

This is what u should aim for. This is the only way all the empires will build starbases and big ships properly.

Economic Ranks (0-5)
====================
Federation: 4.77273
Klingon: 5
Romulan: 4
Lyran: 4.77273
Hydran: 4.77273
Gorn: 4
ISC: 4
Mirak: 5
Orion cartel: 4
Korgath cartel: 3.77273
Prime cartel: 3.77273
TigerHeart cartel: 4
BeastRaiders cartel: 3.65909
Syndicate cartel: 3.77273
Wyldefire cartel: 3.65909
Camboro cartel: 4
Neutral: 4.54545

This is the econ u should shoot for:

Empire Economies
================
          Federation:     4200
             Klingon:     4000
             Romulan:     4400
               Lyran:     4200
              Hydran:     4200
                Gorn:     4400
                 ISC:     4400
               Mirak:     4000
             Neutral:     4000
        Orion cartel:     4400
      Korgath cartel:     4200
        Prime cartel:     4200
   TigerHeart cartel:     4400
 BeastRaiders cartel:     4100
    Syndicate cartel:     4200
    Wyldefire cartel:     4100
      Camboro cartel:     4400

Max econ (for rank comparison): 4400
Ave econ (for shipyard costs):  4223

EDIT: anything with a rank below 4.0 will not be able to build Starbases and large ships like BB's and DN's and BC's become scarce.

I bet if u cut the Econ values in half, u could cut the corresponding gf numbers in half and have to seed less hexes with econ. That'd be good. However, if using values above 100 is stable, in the past it has caused problems, then that is a non issue.

Pesty put up a "hardcore" server....  everyone's ravin about how great it is, but you're all pissin & moanin 'bout it at the same time.....  prima donna's dont even come close to describing ya'all !!! ...  there's no challenging servers, there's no challenging campaigns.. blah, blah, blah !!!     Anytime i see any of Nuclearwessels masterpieces come out, i try to add them to my servers.... the more difficult, the better... even added his 2005 gems to his new jewels, just so all of his treasures are in to enjoy...  if  they're too hard for most, sorry... learn to fly better, if you can beat his scripts with my difficult A.I. setting, you be da man!! .....  if not, shut the hell up, practice, learn, and come back 'till you do !!!   My servers have lots of "cheesefest" ships, but... log on & see if you can beat the "cheesefest" A.I' s there.... my servers been around a while, and it seems to accomidate the rookies as well as the vets, it chooses its ships accordingly... (gads, i hope so)... to whatever the D2 engine sees fit to assign.  So, ya'all wanted a challenge, Pesty gave it to ya, now , ya'all complain about how hard it is,. what HE needs to to to fix it, ect,ect,ect... there's servers up, ya'all wanna fly, or carp ???

Problem Strayy is that DH and I have been doing servers since before 2002. I've been doing them since Articfires and yet people who are NEW to the story don't want to take our word for it. Fine. Learn for yourself and repeat the mistakes of the past. My time is more valuable, tho, and with most of the server admins and scripters on the same page as me and DH, I don;t doubt they are willing to waste their time either with little informed inexperienced player ideas...

Now that we have updated scripts, again.. the installer is updated..

To uninstall the old installer.. go into your OP directory and find the HC_Uninstall.exe and run it.. and then you can DL and run the new installer..

Alternatively, you can just install the new scripts over the top of the old ones..

Due to changes in the Campaign map. I had to reset the server DB..

Hope that this helps.

I got a couple of new variations in the scripts..

1) Encountered a Orion in an asteroid field.. Orions stated they were clear to be in that area.. I moved in with High Scan on.. upon approaching the Orion, I get orders to put marines on board their ship for a search by force if necessary.. so I set weapons to Capture Mode, breach the rear shield, and all of a sudden it starts firing on me and since it was a OVS.. 3 groups of fighters come out, except that they don't attack me, they go taco bell.. I guess they are used as escape pods.. I am then told to not let the ship escape.. So i captured it.. but it did it's best to run like crazy..

2) Enemy supply depot, located in a nebula.. You have to kill the Shipyard and then blow up the boxes.. the star yard would have been much tougher in normal space and not in the Neb..

Also had a couple of good mission runs with Deadman 6.. GGs Deadman.

dONT GUESS. oops caps. There's a reason some races are higher rank than others. There's an added rank to non-plasma races. Here's the notes outta ED's setup:

The economic rankings are much different however: 4 for the plasma races and cartels, 5 for everyone else.

This means the bases that are constructed are likely to be starbases, and the big ships are likely to be battleships or dreadnoughts (dreadnoughts in reality, since the empire budgets cannot yet afford a battleship).

So your plasma races need to have higher econ so that when they are subtracted 1, they still rank 4 or higher. Everyone needs to be 4.0-5 ideally. Redo ur map and DB.

Oops, ya, ur good. Ok, let's use as few hexes as possible for econ. I dont reccomend using a DV larger than 100, tho, but seems u have used econ values in excess of that. So try using 1 hex with 4400 econ for each empire and see if the yards and DB operate properly. That will gfreatly simplify map design.

Post by: Pestalence_XC on July 24, 2008, 03:35:28 pm
True.. currently I have it set to where each race, except Orion NPC, has 11 hexes, each at 400 Economy with a DV of 15..

The Orion has their own hexes set at 200 DV each (each hex calculates for Orions 2 times) .. a neutral hex with 200 economy will be 400 economy for Orions NCP because it calculates both Orion layer and Empire layer separately.. I was testing this last night when revamping the campaign map.

I did get it to balance out and set the Orion Economy hexes to a DV of 95.. basically off limits areas which is to either side of the main PVP target area...

I will see later on tonight or tomorrow if the server will work with an econ of 4400 for each race / cartel in one hex only.. this would be good for those attempting to enter into enemy space without breaking the economy settings..

well, yeah, u want the econ in high DV off limits places so players cant break the shipyards...

Ran the uninstaller, then downloaded the new one, when I clicked the run tab, it tells me "the compressed(zip) file is invalid or corrupted.
Then tried deleting all the old stuff completely, downloaded again, got same message.
Only on the installer link, the scripts did just fine...

Try DLing it with the AV turned off.. it may be getting corrupted in the active scan..

You can scan the file if you like after it is extracted from the zip file.

I bet that is what the problem is

I ran into this one also, when you d/l a file generally it goes to a windows temp dir, so when you try to d/l it again windows (in it's 'I'm going to do you a favor and save you some time' mentality) will pull the same corrupt file from it's temp directory. You'll need to delete that corrupt file from the temp directory BEFORE you attempt to d/l it again. In your browsers 'options' there's an option to purge your 'visited sites' forcing your browser to actually download the entire content of the page again. I'll look when I get home for the location of that 'temp' dir, but wipe the contents, and re-download.

So far seems stable enough, however I need to put shipping lanes into the home hexes to prevent log on errors showing up in the data base..

so far, no DB corruption and the error only shows up on 1 in 5 players.. which is weird.. I think shipping lanes will fix this... that means I need to redo the map.. plus I need to add the new scripts to the server, I will do that in the morning.

Where do u get that shipping lane hexes do ANYTHING? Ans what login errors are u talking about? Do u have Homeworlds set for each race on the map?

hey diz...does this mean shipping lanes have to be put on a map?

i ask as the current version of the "spice wars" map i put together...has no shipping lanes...

and if the econ thing works out...that would really be kewl as then i could go back to the original "map" i had in mind...

but if shipping lanes need to be present...thats something i really need to know...

and anything else if you would be so kind to relay...that would be kewl too...thank you!

Shipping Lane hexes allow Convoy Raid missions to appear, much like you need a Listening Post hex to have the Data Recovery mission to appear. Since the Convoy Raid mission has been removed from the play set, you really don't need shipping lanes.

That's the theory, but (IIRC) in practice the server/script handling of shipping lanes seems kinda flaky - often treating it the same as an empty space hex anyway.

(I think ... haven't looked at that issue in quite awhile now)

Also the DB has been reset.. map has had a bit of an edit in order to help the new problem.. Home space hexes will have an Econ of 1 in each hex except 2.. you have a main economical hex and a support hex to throw the economy off a hair for the news.
