Title: Artifex on Vista?
Post by: NuclearWessels on August 08, 2008, 01:51:58 pm

Anyone run into issues running the map editor (Artifex) on Vista?
Was just goofing around on the laptop and can't manage to get the beastie to play nice.

(No biggie, my desktop is still XP, just curious)

The map editor will not work in Vista.. I have to switch to XP to edit the map.

Pestalence, have you played with the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.0 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=24da89e9-b581-47b0-b45e-492dd6da2971&DisplayLang=en) and the Microsoft Application Verifier (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=bd02c19c-1250-433c-8c1b-2619bd93b3a2&DisplayLang=en)? (Windows Client Application Compatibility (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/aa905066.aspx))

It is showing some useful info about Artifex (as well as fixes for SFCOP.exe [but not StarFleetOP.exe])

The Standard User Analyser in wizard mode seems to show an issue with HKLM registry access and in interactive mode seems to show access to named pipes as an issue.

I've played with them, and even did some custom configurations with them.. no luck.

Maybe you can find something that I missed.

I did come across what might be a good possibility - to run it with system integrity level, using psexec (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897553.aspx) and chml (http://www.minasi.com/vista/chml.htm) but dammit, the group policy editor is not present on Vista Home Premium...   >:(  Maybe you could give that a whirl?
