Just recently my cursor began randomly freezing, tried searching for people having similar trouble and I found this (http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=192766)...
(highlights are minor edits by me)

Hey Folks, I need a hand here.
I have a Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse. (Can't read the model info on the bottom anymore but it's a generic <$25 USB mouse)
Anyway it's been working hunky dory for around 8mo - 1 yr now possibly less.
But just of late its started "locking up". You can work away, next thing the mouse cursor locks up.
Unplug the mouse, stick it back in, and it works a dream for another *oh* 20-30mins. But its random.
I have tried other USB ports with the same problem.
Considering it has no moving parts and hasnt been dropped/moved/treated harshly, I cant seem to see why it would be having a problem.
While I can afford a new mouse, I'm cheap.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is it likely the same thing or is there another possibility? I'd hate to buy a new mouse only to have the same problem come up. For now I've hooked up a borrowed Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 (USB) to see if the problem persists.

I'm sorry to tell you Son, but this is what happens to us men as we get older. Our mouse doesn't work as well...
Try the blue pill!

I have a logitec mouse i have to wse the windows drivers for it to work properly. The logitec drivers never seemed to work correctly for me.
-
It's possible the mouse is just worn out, might be overheating some compnent or something.
If you check the site, maybe you can find the mouse by looking at pictures there, and then download the drivers for it.

I've used both, and it does the same thing.

I'm starting to think that, while googling "mouse cursor locks up" I found the above post and another thread where someone suggested overheating or internally damaged cord as a possible answer.

Searched the Logitech site and the Walmart site since it was purchased there and neither site had this model listed. I have the drivers CD that came with the mouse but installing it didn't help.
(Just occurred to me to try eBay...Logitech Mini Optical Mouse 930732-0403 (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Logitech-Mini-Optical-Mouse-930732-0403_W0QQitemZ180275597933QQihZ008QQcategoryZ23160QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem))
Thanks for the suggestions, Logitech's support site also suggests trying the mouse on another system to see if the problem follows it so if I have no trouble with the current mouse tonight on mine I'll try that with the mini tomorrow.

If that mouse works fine on another computer but won't work on the system you intend the mouse to be used on, then I suggest that you try another USB port to see if the USB port has a broken connection. Sometimes repeated plugging and unplugging devices into a USB port can damage the port. But if the mouse doesn't work on either computer or on multiple USB ports then yeah it's time to replace the mouse. Hope this helps.

Well, I hope it works out for you Vipre. If nothing else, like you said, Mice are cheap these days.

Get a ball mouse. Optical mice suck the root. (preferably serial or PS2 - USB devices suck)
Oh, and make sure not to load any drivers for it. Who ever heard of a mouse that needs its own peculiar drivers, that is absolutely ridiculous.
-
Or get a "gaming" mouse, as they're usually quite sensitive.
-
It occurs to me that if this is an older mouse and driver it may be made for USB 1 (or 1.1) and be running on USB 2 which might cause issues. In which case moving to current MS drivers should solve things. If you recently added other USB devices (or updated their drivers) the difference in generations of the driver software might have added conflicts that didn't exist with either earlier drivers or earlier hardware combinations.
Just a guess.

I'd buy that except for the fact it worked like a champ for a good 6+ months if not longer. Since I swapped mice I've had no trouble so it probably is the mouse itself. I'll get around to setting up the other machine to confirm one of these days.

you can ask a computer shop to try the mouse and see if they also have problem with it?

Here is a solution: Buy another mouse fer pointer's sake (http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/SearchProducts.asp?categoryID=701) :D

before that take the hammer and bet you're mouse with it :whip: ;)
