Title: Looking for cheap Linux computers
Post by: Dash Jones on August 19, 2008, 01:20:34 am
I'm looking for cheaper laptops that have a NON-MS OS on them.

Preferably with an Ati or Nvidia card, as well as internet connectivity.  Otherwise they only need to be able to run older programs such as various free wordprocessor programs and the such that would be used for business or school work.

I was looking at some of the websites, but most are selling top of the line computers (which is nice when I look for such) with MS OS installs.  The only one that has an easy to find area that has other OS's seems to be DELL, and they are charging higher than what I am looking to pay for these.

Wondering if anyone has any leads into reputable businesses that have such computers (I don't mind refurbished if one knows a good site for those as well).

Thank you.  It seems he experienced the same difficulties I have, and wrote up the page.  Great help.  Once again thanks.

If price and having Linux is more important than size have you considered machines like the eeePC from Asus?  There is now quite a large group of variants from different manufacturers with screen sizes from 7" to 10"  and prices ranging up from $299.

Here is a link to a list of (http://www.linuxloop.com/news/2008/08/04/32-ultra-mobile-pcs-that-run-linux/) such machines
