Title: Just wanted to say...Denver Rocks
Post by: TheJudge on August 24, 2008, 07:17:09 pm
I'm here for the convention, but leaving politics aside, I have to say I love this city despite feeling like I'm in a police state at the moment.

Good place to buy investment properties right now.

Take some time and go down south to Colorado Springs and visit the Garden of the Gods..very spectacular..

and for some inexpensive food, but pretty nice entertainment, go west on Colfax until you get to Casa Bonita..food's not the greatest, but they have cliff diving inside  ;D

Also, if it gets too hot, take a drive up to the reception center at Rocky Mtn National Park, just west of Denver.  It'll be freezing up there.. snows in July.

Unfortunately everything's so busy here there won't be much time outside of downtown Denver.  It is being added to my list of places that I want to visit for vacation.  Don't know about Colorado Springs.  That's like visiting enemy territory for me, so not sure I'd want to go there.  :)

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I hate Denver.  It's for several reasons, the first being when I was driving, it seems kids like to drive up to you and flip you off.  Then to make matters even more fun, my flights seem to be delayed whenever I go to Denver.

However, I hope you have fun Judge.

I got into the Convention Hall last night (after waiting an hour on the bus - 40 minutes of that sitting in one spot while security twiddled their thumbs).

yes, there were tears in my eyes at the Kennedy video and his speech was fanstastic.  Michelle did a wonderful job, and the way the youngest daughter corrected her daddy on where he was at the time was hilarious!

I'd much rather have had Jimmy Carter actually speak than listen to the City Clerk of Chicago talk about his personal experiences with Barack Obama.  Still, I know the Obama campaign's focus for the night wasn't on the Democratic Party but rather trying to push out more information on Barack Obama.

One interesting thing that I think folks here will be interested in:

Facing the stage, I noticed that Al-Jazeera news network had a box on the top level and to the far left.

Facing the stage, Fox News was on the upper level to the far right.

Nice symmetry!

I'm also in the best hotel for 'events'.  Last night our bus couldn't deliver us back to our hotel.  the reason:  Police arrested a few hundred people in front of the hotel.  Most of them, those who were on the sidewalks were released within an hour.  Those in the street were carted off to that secret jail.

Today, it's fooking hard to go outside for a smoke.  Had to have someone from CDP staff come and get me back into the hotel.  On one side we've got Code Pink Wackos, and on the other side we have Anti-Abortion wackos.  Not sure which group is worse.

Don't forget the Ward Churchill, Alex Jones, and stormfront wackos. Wouldn't be surprised if the Phelps clan wasn't there also stirring up sh*t.

I'd just say that Al-Jazeera network is about as 'fair and balanced' as Fox News.

It's too bad you won't get out of Denver. You would really like Boulder.

Boulder I'd actually like to see, although I think most of your police officers are here in downtown Denver right now.  Our hotel was placed in lockdown yesterday and surrounded by a few hundred police officers to protect us against the protestors marching in our direction.  It's been an interesting experience being in a city with 2-6 officers on every corner, squads of mounted officers riding their horses around, more squads of officers on bicycles riding around, and then the SUV's with special mounts for the officers to stand on as the vehicles drive around.

We're here until Saturday afternoon, but Friday is staff cleanup day to pack and ship everything back home so can't really go anywhere.  Hoping to get to the roller coaster park that is next to Pepsi Center if it is open.

I'd just say that Al-Jazeera network is about as 'fair and balanced' as Fox News.

I would tend to disagree with this statment.  It's like calling all Democrats being the same as Communists, or Republicans the same as Nazi's...which also are ridiculous statements to join the one above.

Fox has more sensationalistic Opinion shows, but the actual news...

This would be more a thing for Hot and Spicy...with some of the news stories I could actually post from Al-Jazeera...some of which probably would make Fox seem far more liberal than anything else...in particular some of the stuff they write in regards to Homosexuality...Fox is in that way...just as biased as CNN in liberal newscasting comparatively to Al-Jazeera.

PS:  Al-Jazeera is actually more of a RIGHT/Conservative network, far to the Right of Fox News, or mostly anything one has unless it's the 700 club network in the US...and even then I think the 700 club would be considered more liberal then Al-Jazeera.

The statements in this regard, I believe show an ignorance of Al-Jazeera and their stories.

A more appropriate Far LEFT news group would probably be one controlled by the Chinese Communists.

With all respect given of course.  I just thought some comments were rather ridiculous in what they stated, culminating in Judge's final comment.

Other than that, glad you had a good time.  I thought Obama's acceptance speech was a particularly good one, and rather convincing.  I thought it rather sad how they had several rather interesting speakers, but that people basically ignored many of those speaking on stage and just talked to each other instead of listening.  Most seemed to be pro-Obama, which is appropriate, but some gave their reasons of why they thought Obama was a good choice for them (such as the lady who lost her job after working at the factory for many years due to how companies are exporting jobs out of the US and such) whilst others really made absolutely NO sense at all (such as the women who jumped from point to point without any real backing except that she was pro-Obama who spoke right AFTER the aforementioned lady who lost her job).

Enjoy Denver, and rest up after getting back.  I imagine you had a pretty exhausting week there.
