Title: Help a newbie here
Post by: Paul Ray on August 25, 2008, 12:50:09 pm
I own SFC3 but can't find my disk anywhere. I don't want to pay the crazy price for the game on ebay. Is there anywhere I can get the game DL for free since the sompany doesn't make a profit no more I figure I could somewhere. Thanks for any help you guys can give. Gonna keep looking for my disk though, lol.

Even if you find a copy for download on the internet, you'd still need your original CD Key in order to even play online.

Any copy of SFC3 you find for download will be pirated, and more than likely the key you get with it, if any, will be a key that can only be used for installation, not online play.

Unfortunately, if you want to play SFC3 online, you'll either need to find your own copy, buy a new one, or hope someone on here who has a copy with an original key is willing to give you their copy if they no longer or have never used it before.

I don't know if this works online but I got SFC 3 from URL to Warez Site Removed. It is a Home of the Underdog (now defunct abandon ware site) version and costs 6 bucks, but it works with mods and such.

I found my copy and everything now.  :D Just got to remember in what order the patches go and what mod to DL and how to get online to play.

When installing, do it with AV turned off.

Install the game then install patch 534_b .. then install the directory server fix.

that is it.

After that, you can install whichever mod you like.

to play the game, find the SFC3.exe file, right click it, select properties and put checks into Disable Visual Themes and Disable Desktop Composition.

the game should work fine.. also if you Crash on your first launch, go into the SFC 3 game folder to Assets\Scripts and find the Cache files (*.cache) and delete them, the game will generate them on launch.

Also to improve graphic quality. use your system search function and look in the SFC 3 and sub folder for *.x files and delete them, the game will recreate them upon launch based on you Video card performance.

Finally, make sure you read the SFC3_Beta_1.01_v534_b.rtf file, it has some extras in it such as how to play the game without the CD in, how to enhance graphics, and other items.

Hope this helps.

I already DL the other patches and didn't install the one you mentioned. So I should do a clean install and just install patch 534_b? Where doI find the server fix? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions.

The 534B patch is the one most used in SFC3 mods.  However, sometimes the 531 patch is used, and the unofficial 534C once in a blue moon.  Keep in mind the 534C is not official.

The D3 Directory patch can be found here on D.net or on SFC3Files.com.

When installing a mod, always make sure you follow the installation instructions carefully, making sure to install the proper patch that the install instructions call for, and, for good measure, install the directory patch last.

Once you're up and running ...... if the stock sounds seem a bit tame ... or even lame ... you might like my sound package.

Install is not difficult.

Here's the link.    Enjoy the game.

Depends on your point of view on what is best online and most balanced.  Balance, in any game, is a perspective.

Aside from Legions At War and Strayy's Tavern, I am not aware of any camps/servers that are live right now.
