Failed arson attempts are a dime a dozen.  The barometer for whether it is worthy of a Darwin award is "how does it measure up to the guy who lost a testicle after pleasuring himself on a spinning lathe, and then trying to repair the damage himself with a stapler?"

Not stupid enough.  More clumsy than stupid.  knightstorm is right for a Darwin it needs to be creatively stupid.  LOTS of people have blown them selves up or set themselves on fire when attempting to do so to others.

Also the true Darwin Award is for someone who took themselves out in a creative way (this guy should only get an honorable mention at best).
