It's been roughly 4 and a half years since I discovered SFC. Since then, I've been wanting to learn to make models so bad. 4 years ago, give or take a couple months, I learned to kitbash. Since then, really haven't made any advancements in any respect. My kitbashing has gotten better. Always clean models. But making models has always eluded me.
Only recently have I managed to figure things out, and I still don't know how to do alot of things, and more than likely I'm not gonna get much help in figuring those things out.
Anyway, thought I'd share what I've been doing the past week.

Looks like you have a tear in the sides of the neck where the torp tubes are. Gimme a yell on msn and I'll help ya where I can.

Na. Just the way the polys turned when I did what I did. Doesn't bother me much.

Ok, it's coming along. Sometimes I wonder with all the work I'm putting into it, if I'm not making a few parts kinda tacky. However, since this is all new development in my skills, I'm actually happy with what little I have been able to create.

Some of the guys over at BCC wanted to see some renders with some smoothing applied to the model, so I thought I'd show the same renders here.

Good looking model. Great looking 1st model!

Can someone say Chabot?
(Wonder if this one will start another war in this forum)

for a first model i think it looks really good. what shape saucer you think it will have
-
Well, I haven't given it a name yet. ::) Never know what could happen.
Sylar, she's gonna have a conventional circular saucer. Still trying to figure out how to go about making the various components for the saucer. I've pretty much gotten to the point where everything else is gonna be a major major pain.
It'll get done, eventually.

I continued work on the saucer. I had created the saucer spline a couple days ago, and left it there and spent all of today looking at various Excelsior models to try and figure out how to create my own impulse engine assembly. Wasn't easy, and for a while I didn't think what I was doing was gonna work, but I like the results that I've come up with.
I have some nice ideas for a refit concept.
I'm starting to think that for my first attempt at modeling, this is actually gonna end up being pretty damned good.

good work m8

And you said you couldn't mesh. Pfft. Now all we got to do is teach you how to mapp then to texture :P
I am barely now able to mesh. Those damned warp engines though are gonna be a complete bitch to figure out. Still waiting on some help to learn how to make them.

man i cant wait till u do the phaser arrays rofl

Believe it or not, but that's gonna be the easy part.

Ok, still strugging with the warp engines. I can't seem to figure out how to make them. And no, they're not Excelsior warp engines. :-p I saved a tut from someone on Scifi-meshes that I know I can use to make Excelsior warp engines if I so choose.
I decided to take a break in figuring out the warp engines to try and get the aux impulse engines out of the way. I think I succeeded, but it took me several days to figure it out.
So, here are some update pics. Keep in mind, I only worked on the aux impulse engines, and played with the look a bit.
All I've got left really to do is make the warp engines, make the sensor dome, a bridge and other details on the top of the saucer, resize the torpedoes so they aren't so big, and then extrude some phaser arrays. The bitch is gonna be the warp engines and sensor dome, the warp engines being the more painful.
