Title: Asimov's Foundation on film?
Post by: Bonk on December 01, 2008, 05:03:40 pm
I just came across this story:

http://sffmedia.com/films/science-fiction-films/257-will-asimovs-foundation-saga-be-lord-of-the-rings-in-space.html

It has potential to make a wonderful series of movies, but it will break my heart if it is not done well, The Foundation Trilogy is my absolute favourite work of science fiction of all time. It is the standard by which I measure all lesser science fiction.

This could be the film that takes me out to the theater for the first time since the second Matrix movie (a sad disappointment for both the movie and the theater experience). I sure hope they do it justice.

Lie War and Peace i rather think it's going to be tough to set this to film right.

If you notice Lord of the Rings, though long, featured but a few main charcters all the way through.

Hmmmmm  If it's done in a trilogy. I wonder who would play the Mule ?

For some strange reason I can see Bruce Campbell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Campbell) in the role.

And I would hope it would be done in more than the trilogy, the other four novels complete the tale. Though I think the prequels should be done afterwards, à la Star Wars. (but not as "cheesed up" of course)

My recommended order of presentation (as if New Line were consulting me ;)):

- Foundation
- Foundation and Empire
- Second Foundation
- Foundation's Edge
- Foundation and Earth

- Prelude to Foundation
- Forward the Foundation

I read that series of books at the tender age of 15. With that trilogy, Stranger in a Strange Land, and a Mote in God's Eye I was hooked for life on Science Fiction.

Then came Half Past Human and not only was I hooked, but I started having an affair with this Harsh Mistress...

By the sound of it you ought to throw some Spider Robinson in there too. ;)

And I think I figured out why Bruce Campbell came to mind, I just realised that Soreyes' is using his pic for an avatar. (I used to have avatars and signatures turned off in my view preferences, but recently turned avatars back on.) Though I still think he might make a good Mule, or maybe Patrick Stewart.

I don't know why but the first actor that popped into my mind was Leonardo DiCaprio. He can be very charming and then turn around and be a Horses Ass the next minute
