I think that was a little before my time.  Though didn't they come out with him being a little bigger for a while in the 90s?

I think so, My best friend from Kindergarten, started collecting them then, Mike Sumrall. He kept trying to compensate, but by then I had collectors versions of 15" shogun warriors. :D
