Title: You've played too much SFC when...
Post by: Roychipoqua_Mace on May 03, 2009, 06:47:30 pm
1. The 'Z' key, not used much by most people, is almost worn away on your keyboard.

2. You see license plates with stuff like 'CCZ' and think, "cheeze!"

3. You know the firing charts cold, but memorizing simple everyday things is hard.

4. You secretly (or not) feel superior for playing a decade-old game.

While trapped in a grocery store aisle by a few slow moving shoppers, the first thing that comes to mind is how satisfying slapping a tractor and slamming them into a nearby shelf would be.

1. You comment that the steak is tougher than a gorn hull.
2. You start wishing you could drop a T-bomb on the guy tailgating you
3. You try to find magic screws in your local hardware store.

You scream out "Engage ESGs!" before pulling out into heavy traffic.

You wish for just ONE Photon Torpedo when a stupid kid goes barreling down the road and nearly runs you off.

When you hear the word weasel, you think of dropping to speed 4 as instinct rather than think of your brother's pet.

You've plaed too much SFC when...

1.  You start making "Top-Ten Lists" style threads of You've Played SFC Too Much.

2.  People actually respond to your thread with "Top-Ten Lists" style threads of You've Played SFC Too Much of their own.

1. You look for the Follow and Match Speed buttons on your cruise control when driving.
2. SFC sound track is the one CD always in your 5-disk CD changer.
3. You have two CD-ROM drives, one is never opened.
4. You believe large space craft can fly through each other.
5. You ask the enemy to surrender, even though you know they always say "NO!"

You try and make squadrons of silly ships out of ideas from other sci fi genres in SFC, like 2 FFs and a large Q ship. Attack ships and tender!

You reinstall a decade old game and search for a community for it even if everyone seemed to have disappeared ages ago.

You find amusing the responses on this thread

1.) When you can fart the theme to all Trek shows.
2.) When you start cataloging your movie and DVD collection by stardate.
3.) When you buy a new car, and have a custom paint job done so it looks like a starship.
4.) When you're with you're woman, and all you can think about is how you could have better handled the battle against those K-D5Ds.

3. You have two CD-ROM drives, one is never opened.

... you find your "lost" CD in said drive after hours of searching.

... you own more than one copy of any SFC because you "lost" the original (3 SFC1s, 2 SFC3s :D).

... you've written a fan-fic in which you though you cat would make a good Kzinti Admiral.

... you write fan-fic, but to "keep it real" you play out the scenarios using SFC ('cause SFB takes too long).

... you've dedicated a partition on your hard drive to games, and one to SFC.

... you not only remember how you beat "dancing with yourself", but you keep a copy of the tactics used because you got tired of typing the same blah blah over and over on the ancient forums.

... War vets have combat flashbacks, while you have General War flashbacks.

... you have a bumber sticker that reads "My Other Car is a K-C7".

... you can edit the ship list in your sleep.

... you can edit the ship list in wordpad, without scrolling up.

... you find no irony in dropping an NSM in front of the Hiroshima.

Czar "I probably have more, just not right now," Mohab

just speaking out of William Shatners *** here but not speaking ill of the power, but maybe of alternate uses of those poor rubber chickens.

Yeah but before SFC, there was probably D&D or someother social stigma game in there.  I know I ran a gambit of D&D, Champions, SFB, Harn, etc.  But also found someone who could stand those little distractions (even tho she didn't do any of them), 20 years togeather this year (17 married).

When you mentally place yourself in the captian's chair for every single engagement you've ever seen in a trek show or movie, and spend wayyyyy too much time thinking about how you would have done it differently.

When watching said engagements, to calculate out how much damage each volley should have done and get offended that the writers didn't get it 'right'.

Never played D&D.  Before SFC, there was basically some Trek video games here and there, movies and TV shows definately, but also Ninja Turtles (the older ones, not the newer ones), Superman comic books, some rock music, and Catholic school and alot of good grades.  Also overweight, asthma, really thick hair, and I was never interested in sports.

And I use my rubber chickens only for discipline or justice!!!!  Me, nor my rubber chickens, swing the way you suggest.  *uses the power of my rubber chickens and has Marstone slowly revert back to normal, but along the way he assumes the existence of Michael Jackson's first nose, Paris Hilton's brain, and Bob Dole's ding dong, and Ben Affleck's acting ability, and then sees Marstone revert to normal*

Now that's better.....*walks away whistling some unrecognizable tune*....oh, I do have a small Yugioh card collection, but my relationship issues existed a long time before that.

Guilty of the two CD drives with the permanently residing SFC disc (back up sopy as the master is too good to risk!!)

It hasn't been opened for a few years either.

You know that you've been playing SFC too long, especially as a MIrak (Kzinti) or Lyran player when you prefer to use the neighbour's flower garden for a crap rather than the toilet.

You know when you've been playing SFC too long when you reach for a Phaser, rather than a toilet brush, to shift a "Cling On" in the crapper.

You know you've been playing SFC too long when you hum the theme for the "Doomsday Machine" whilst slowly moving a biscuit towards you're mouth....

I've also tried to correlate ship types and races to car types and brands.  For example, I'm currently driving a 1992 Chevy Lumina APV minivan which I'd like to think in game would be an F-CVL.

...I've got brand matches for each race if anyone's curious...

You know you've been watching TNG too much when you refer to the Honda Acty Van / Bedford Rascal / etc. as a "Type 2 Shuttle Craft".

Actually, at a Sci-Fi bash at the loacl university, when I was a mature student, someone actually converted a Honda Acty Van into a road going replica of a TNG Type 2 Shuttle Craft.

This was back in the mid-1990's.
