grab Milkshape and start playing.

Can I ask where I can find?

I'd recommend gmax as it is free, but milkshape does have a 30 day demo I think.

I want to see the 3d studio max .mod plugins translated into python import/export scripts for blender. I think it should be easy enough. Might even try it myself. But don't start there. Try gmax or milkshape first.
Or this tool might do what you need:

If you google around you might find a gmax tutorial shows you how to create a fighter jet and texture it. The tutorial originally came with gmax but somewhere down the line of releases they drooped it. If that fails try 3d cafe they have alot of max video tutorials that will work for gmax.

Hi, Spartan!
We are so excited when new people are interested in modeling and contributing new ideas and models to our community. I do all of my modeling in Milkshape. If you are brand new to modeling, I would recommend it as a start, as it is the easiest to learn. As you start requiring more detail and shortcuts in modeling, you may need to move up to GMax or 3DMax.
Milkshape has a 30 day trial which is plenty of time to decide whether you will want to commit to that program. It can be found here:
http://www.chumba.ch/chumbalum-soft/files/ms3d184.zip
I first recommend kit-bashing existing models as this will get you familiar with the program's functions. You will need to pickup the MOD importer/exporter available here:
http://chumbalum.swissquake.ch/files/MilkShape%20Plugins%20R4%20No%20Installer.zip
Major Payne has an excellent tutorial specifically designed for use with Milkshape and starship enthusiasts:

That will get you started with a model. SFC is one of the easiest games to get a 3rd party creation into with in a matter of minutes. Once you have gotten to that point, come back here, and we will help you get it into the game!
If you have any specific questions, that is what we are here for. Good luck!

Perhaps D.net might be able to help with the hosting. Just a suggestion. Or, you could always upload them to a free 4shared.com account and have them hosted for download only, and just provide the link on your site.
