Title: Texturing in GMax
Post by: GotAFarmYet? on August 08, 2009, 12:20:57 am
This is one of those things i don't know how to do, so it is time to ask.

1 how do you make the UV Map and export it so you can make those sheets the textures are applied to. This was rediculously in Milkshape but not so in GMax

2 How do you change mapping if it already applied to a model. I have a ship that distorts the textures in two areas that I would like to fix. The two areas I would like to fix the mapping are here in the pictures below.

In 3DSMax (GMax is a dumbed down version of 3DSMax) I would just apply an Unwrap modifier to the mesh and fix the distortions, however I would need to know which parts go to which map. So, I'd just detach the parts where the distortions are into a separate object, fix them and reattach them. But I can't be more of help, it's been years since I last saw GMax...

For exporting the unwraps, try the attachment, but I cannot guarantee it will work with GMax since it's written for 3DSMax.

At this point anything helps.

I know nothing about GMax, I use to use Milkshape which was dirt easy to do this stuff in. Unforuantly the interface is completely different.

Its a dual launcher

It is FoaS Connie getting retextured, I wanted to remap to areas because of the distortion errors that occur on them when I try to texture what I want there. Have not worked on it for a bit, though as I need my home PC to do GMax work. He was nice enough to send my the ship to play with while I was travelling. Still have the deflector area to finish up, then adding the saucer hatches, finishing the lower saucer light map and seeing if I want to add thrusters to it.

It is basically this ship

Its those Errors though that are stopping most of the progress, because I get side tracked into wanting to get thise fixed first then finish texturing it.

Adonis,

The file has a error when I open it, and doesn't work with GMax. Don't know if it is from the error or Gmax though that is causing the problem

3DS Max plugins won't work w/gmax. Some scripts will, but not plugins, unfortunately

As I said (and Rod also pointed out) it was a long shot that it will.

Always knew it would be, but it was worth a try anyways.

The Error I got though was when extracting it from the compressed file though, GMax just plan old refused to run it. I just wasn't sure what the real problem was if it was the file or GMAx, but appearently it doesn't matter as I think GMax has its own plugin for it.

Wish I could help ya GAFY.  I'm still trying to finish a couple models.  With this 5 week class and my constantly breakdown of lucid, viable brain time, I haven't had a chance to finish the ships off.
