Title: EAW/OP in Windowed mode.
Post by: Zer on September 19, 2009, 01:39:17 am
I have a Widescreen monitor, and thus SFC2/OP appears stretched. I haven't been able to find any help in getting it to run at a Widescreen resolution, so I tried running EAW in a Window. It works, although I cannot see any of the game's 2D assets. That means that I have no HUD, or no visible main menus. I  know that the 3D works fine because I am able to browse the menu, although I cannot see what I'm doing (it is all black).

Is there any way to fix the black screen? It is unfortunate that this old game is more difficult to run on newer hardware. I love SFC, and I miss playing it. :)

Another minor issue is that I get sound stuttering when I play the game. It seems to stutter a lot more when there's a lot going on (IE 4+ ships firing weapons). I run an old SoundBlaster LIVE! sound card with the latest drivers.

More info:

I'm running Windows XP SP3.
I have an X1950 Pro 512MB AGP card running on a modified Catalyst 7.3 distribution (All of ATI's newer drivers have very limited or no support for AGP cards).

Is there a setting in your ATI catalyst version to not stretch fullscreen apps? There is in mine, I use that and it works fine (not windowed).

Caution, rant ahead:
However, ATI sucks - always have. I remember in 1998 being horrified that they would put a card on the market that cannot draw straight lines. The "Rage" series I think it was. Terrible products. Matrox is Canadian video technology that can draw straight lines and remains Canadian. Far superior. (Well, actually it is Quebecois technology)

Yeah I doubt that this set of drivers has that sort of setting on it. What are you using, Catalyst Control Center?
