Post by: candle_86 on September 20, 2009, 01:10:20 am
Anyone know if anyone made the original ship (cant remember the name now) or where I can find high detail pictures of the model, for the 1960's show

i cant get happy with my top dome tring to keep it all a single mesh, though like my daedalus im gonna do most of the details with textures, as i suck at boolean

well my daedalus looks like it has rings on it but its totally flat surface wise lol. Not only that but in SFC how many times for one do you see the front of the ship or the bottom which is where the details are for the model. Not only that how many people play zoomed in on there model where they can make out all the details. The stock ships I didnt notice where just a pointed saucer till I opened them in mod viewer for instance lol

If you start the model as a sphere, or more precisely a hemisphere, and then extrude the saucer from there your dome will be perfect and the model will be one piece.

Or

Make a hemisphere that's the same number of divisions as the saucer and place it where you want it. Delete the inner polies from the saucer where the dome intersects it. Then manually connect everything.

Booleans are hard to get. I used to really struggle with them. I got some simple, but good advice from Adonis. He said, "Don't be afraid to get in there and do some hand stitching". Often you have to to clean them up. That shape is simple enough though that you should be able to avoid a boolean.

well I need to which is causing me some headache, I need to cut out 3 windows in the front of it that follow the curve lol

I would recommend trying to extrude the windows too. You might have to increase the subdivisions on the outer row or 2 of polygons on the saucer to give you curved windows. It looks like you've only got 24 sides to it and that probably won't be enough.
