IE6 needs YOUR help

These days we are inundated with bloated web browsers that overcomplicate our lives. However, there is one eminent exception: IE6. It has been around since 2001 and is still one of the most powerful and versatile browsers available.

This is why we want to achieve the following:

    * Get everyone to use IE6
    * Get IE6 ported to more platforms
    * Get the W3C standard changed to fit IE6

The thing is it doesn't have tabbed browsing which most browsers do unsure about safari although that is Mac.

Considering the recent observations SFHQ and I have made I'd be tempted to seriously get on board with this.

I'd like to see IE6 and IE8 javascript and image rendering performance compared on identical machines. Or the same machine. I suspect IE6 may blow IE8 out of the water.  I wonder if I install IE8 on my XP install if I can roll it back to IE6? Probably not.

edit: ah wait, SFHQ had reported stats from IE7 not IE6. I did test IE6 performance recently and it was worse than SFHQ's reports on IE7. Surpisingly though, IE8 perfomance is inferior to IE7.

Love the comments on the site though. ;)

IE6 was replaced for a reason, there are millions of basic code exploits that couldnt be fixed with a patch, it required IE7 to close alot of those holes, as alot of the code had to be changed. Let IE6 died

I was going to say the exact thing about why IE6 was replaced...so I'm not so certain it's the best browser to have as the standard.

I'm not against people using IE6 however, but I can't say I'm completely agree with the ideas expressed on getting everyone to use it.  I prefer later versions of IE OR Firefox currently.

Um guys, I think you're missing something:

SaveIE6.com was put together as an April Fool’s joke by the uptime monitoring service Pingdom. Due to the tremendous interest it has received we have decided to keep this site up and running. Thanks everyone for the great feedback and for enjoying the irony!

IE(6) is a web developers nightmare. CSS was supposed to simplify web development. IE fixed that idea!

The entire discussion is tongue-in-cheek.

But I am genuinely surprised at my recent discovery that IE7 on XP is much faster than IE8 on Vista. I would have expected the reverse.
