Title: U.S.S. GOLDSMITH, TRIBUTE CLASS WIP
Post by: joker on October 03, 2009, 12:23:11 pm
Hi,

so like i said in the ewloe thread, i have lost the mesh as it was on my mem stick, still have the textures though  :-\

here is my new ship, the riker class. I want to blend ambassador class and sovvy style features to make this tng ship.

I am going to texture the saucer section upper, before i model the main hull. The main hull will be livke the sovvy hull but fatter

so it fits the shape. i liked your input into my shutltle, and would appreciate simular input here. thank you all

A texture update, I am happy with how they look, since my last model I looked at other ships on battleclinic for how the textures have been made for ideas.

Just before I call it a day, the escape pods show the scale of the ship, so as you can see its a small vessel, but they are not final, just place holders for now.

Look forward to hearing your input. night.  :-X

**edit**

they are a little big, so its not an accurate scale yet...   they need to be 20% smaller  :D

it almost looks to be drasticly smaller than the ambassador based on those life pods.

Ya, I must agree, is this some sort of smaller vessel?

None the less, I think that is one VERY nice texture job though.   :)

Just a thought, name it after LaForge instead, since it's a small ship it could be an NX for engeneering tests. It does sorta have that Experimental brand new type feeling to it. I can't wait to see what you have in store for engines and secondary hull that's for sure. You should be sure to give it a unique shuttle or runabout type too. Or capt yacht.

Your quite right, , I think the escape hatches need to be half this size.

Ok, Im happy with the naming suggestions, but if thats the case and the ship is going to be named by someone who actually means something to this and all trek communities, then i will need a section of text for the readme. So Fallen Warrior, what i would like is like a . . . little passage of text in honour of this man, ur idea so I believe this is best coming from you..  and if we make all the names you mentioned as a pack, then a write up for each..  :P

Ok, new scale shown.. Im sticking with this :)

you should make a damaged version barley functionable and call it the Brannon and Bragga

Overall coloring and layout of the textures looks real good. They are too 2 dimensional looking though and the base aztec looks a bit stretched out. You might want to rotate the base texture a bit to line the aztec paneling up with the grid lines on the saucer, too.

Good work though and a real nice looking design.

Thanks,

by looking 2d do you mean the textures look flat?

I apologise for double posting (there is nothing worse that that )

But I have finished the bridge, and am going to texture the impulse engines next, after that I build the hull, and I know we all wanna see what that looks like (including me  :crazy2:)

Hmmm.....

Looking at the Pics, the thing that hits fist is the areas that would be painted on are below the plate lines and should be above them (ie the registry)

Next small ship problem made for combat less windows would be used. You should also indent the windows making the saucers top the lighter areas and towards the rim darken them. Then add a glow to the lighted windows to make the indent less noticable on those. Added a pic to show that alittle clearer below.

I would put less windows especially in the dark areas as that distracts from the contrasting the rest of the ship. If you do add them there group them tightly like a observation area.

The hull lines can be made to look more 3D at the plates by adding a line by them that is about 10-20 steps lighter than the orginals. You can also select the orginal panel lines copy the layer and then select them at a +1 or 2 pixels and blur them abit, it causes a bit of a roundness look to the edges, sometimes changing them with a saturation filter option after can improve the look, while the copied layer will provide the plate seperation lines

Also add a line darker to the bottom of the escape pod to give it height or one on the top lighter to show a indent

Thanks so far,

I have made some of the changes you mentioned, including the lines on the hull, and placed the reg so it on top not below them, drew new rounder windows and added an interior, but I may change the interior image as Im not really 100% with it. I will be embossing the window edges properly, but this will be one of the last things i do when i collapse all my photoshop layers at the end.

Need to texture the raised upper rim, and the saucer rim, but i think that can wait until I have built the main hull.

May I make one suggestion?  You might want to remove the 2 windows very near the Impulse engines, I just don't think that there would be any room for compartments in that area.  Other than that, it looks great!
