Just reinstalled OP today. Applied Enhancement Package 5.1. Played a couple of skirmish matches. Tried to create storyline and conquest campaigns. Program hangs on the initial progress bar screen or ends in an error and CTDs. Any thoughts on what the problem may be?

Did you set the game for XPSP 2 or 3 compatibility AND set game to run as administrator?

Sounds like it can't create the database files. Probably due to Vista's brilliant (sarcasm) application virtualisation solutions and ever-so-helpful here, let me decide what all your installation locations are for you, then deny itself access to its own hard disk...
Disable virtualisation for the app and run it as admin. Alternatively, install it (as admin) outside the "Program FIles | Program Data" directory structure paradigm and everything should work much better once the application has access to its own installation folder. Basically, I install everything SFC related on Vista to a subfolder of C:\SFC\ where Vista might leave it alone.
To save yourself a reinstallation you could just disable virtualisation for the app and then adjust the permissions on the op installation folder so that any user who might run the game has full permissions on the folder it was installed to (and all subfolders and files). Should achieve the same result. (would also apply to all installed mods and utilities as well)

Yes.

Um, how do you do that? I don't see an option for that.

Copied and pasted entire install to just inside the C directory level. Made no difference.

Um, I'll have to check my vista install, been in XP all night.

I don't expect that would work. OP and all the mods would have to be installed to a folder outside the program files folder that has full permissions for all users that will mod or play the game. This will avoid directory virtualistaion which totally screws sfc. (but will not avoid registry virtualisation) Install to a root foldername that Microsoft could not possibly have imagined anyone would use, thus there caannot be any code in windows that will explicity screw with it.
I'll check on the virtualisation settings in Vista tomorrow for you, but an installation outside the dreaded "Program Files" folder may be required for full functionality.

my little bro had this issue in xp, i think he ended up deleting and recreating the database for the single player campaign

Make sure that the Anti-Virus is turned off when installing the game and OP Enhancement Package..... AV has been known to corupt different portions of the game when installing

A statue of The Virgin Mary placed atop the CPU case can sometimes help ward off the Evil Spirits. :D

No, you've got it all wrong. I fixed my Vista problems by shaking rattles and blowing smoke. The fresh blood of a black rooster was instrumental to the solution!

I was crushed when I learned I couldn't play SFC:OP on my computer with Vista. Somehow it worked under one profile, but under another it wasn't....
I guess when I get back to it I'll try installing it right into the C:\ directory. Would that fix everything?

You have to run the Game as Administrator.. if the 2nd account on the OS does not have Administrator priviledges, then the game may not work on Vista / Windows 7.

All right! Looks like it worked.
Though, a bonus question: is there any way to change/enhance the resolution? Right now it looks like it forces the game to play at 800x600 or some other crappy small resolution. I seem to remember hearing there's no way to change it, but is this the case?
