These are the models I worked on this Thanksgiving weekend. Three are new; the rest are re-textures; all are for the Tahnyn Voidal Navy.
-
very nice
-
Funny, I just had thoughts for a similar design to these this weekend. These are very cool!! Good work, man.
-
And the Enemies:
-
Thanks all!
There are plenty more where that came from!
Rod, I would be interested in seeing your designs!
-
I've always liked your style.

I never did anything with the idea. It was just a thought that I had this weekend and then I look here and see something along the same line. Makes me hear the theme for Twilight Zone in my head.
-
I had this crazy idea that I could make a spherical ship look good. Well, I am still holding out hope for when the texture is applied. . .
-
Its a solid start - I would add something more thats off-center besides that spinial
-
Good idea, I am thinking maybe a recessed satellite dish on the upper right and a turret on the bottom.
-
seriously cool stuff :D
bit homeworld...ish?
-
I would be lying if I said Homeworld was not an inspiration for most of my non-trek stuff. I like nautical-style hulks and broad colorful stripes painted over hap-hazard nibbly-nobs.
-
some of them would make some good fed transports too. Nice lookin. Also sorta remind me of a sub.
-
Always in love with the Earth-Romulan War ships at the Starfleet Museum, I have finally worked up the confidence to attempt some of those rounded hulls with intersecting cylinders and spheres, this mesh of the Powhatan Class is nearly complete but missing the impulse engine nodes. ( I am planning to use the rear as the impulse engine.)

All of your models are amazing work!. I agree with Mackie, the "Homeworld" style to your models is an excellent choice, and your SFM models are top notch. I look forward to any more models you might release in the future. :)
-
don't forget ot add teeth :knuppel2:
-
OK, NOT by any means the final texture, but I am toying with the idea of using textures jacked from Serenity. This gives a feel for how it would look. Hull markings to come later. . . .
-
I love it IM.I have always loved the Earth-Romulan war ships.
-
Are you saying the panels are too big or too small? You want them small enough to give the impression of size (spec is about 170 m), but large enough not to clutter. Standard steel plate (if that is any consideration) comes in 8' x 40' (2.4m x 12.2m) sections.
For this era ship, I like the idea of people being almost clueless about interstellar travel and basically strapping a fusion reactor and cannons to any kind of tin can that will hold oxygen. The ships should be fragile, incurring wear just from space flight. Markings should be large and bold to promote morale as the ship leaves Earth's space dock, but unmaintained during its duty cycle. I like the idea of these things being part of the 72nd battle group, that being their estimated life span in battle. . . 70 seconds. Surviving ships only a result of a safety in numbers mentality, essentially making it a war of numbers. I like that the specs for the ships have the decks rotated 90 deg. from other Trek designs, but think it would be even more interesting if gravity generators were not yet in use.
As far as other models from this era. I have a problem with the outboard warp engines being present on some, but not others. I am considering that if I do additional models, I will leave off, or have an optional set of outboard nacelles (as if they were upgraded to supplement the Federation's fleet).
The Starfleet Museum site says that the Andorians and Tellarites were allies to the humans. It has been speculated that the Tellarites are responsible for the command saucer module design philosophy seen in Federation ships. Perhaps the Andorians were fans of the outboard warp nacelles (ignore Cochran's Pheonix for this theory). Bla bla bla . . .
-
OK, I am considering the modeling and texturing complete. How should I arm this baby?
-
there's a few DY's with outboards. I was hoping for sharkteeth but oh well, it turned out beautifly anyways. You know, there's an awsome quality model of a comet over at BCC and the guy doesn't do textures, so the model is just kinda sitting there, it's much smoother but if you can do as good a job on that as ya did here it be one killer looking SOB.
-
Looks superb dude.. :D
-
When and where will it be available for download?
-
I am thinking about how I would do one of the Romulans (way out of character for me). On releasing these, I am pretty much sure most people would not use them in the way I will. Should it be just model, hardpoints, and texture, or go the whole nine yards and include the loadouts?
-
I have started and almost completed the mesh for the Clavicle. Right now it doesn't look like I will be able to get it very smooth, especially with the nacelles in the back and stay under my self-imposed 2000-poly limit (I have a new computer, so this is up from 700 polies). Here is the mesh so far . . .

Ok, here is the textured version of the Romulan "Clavicle." I felt pretty silly making this texture, but I think it turned out ok. I used some textures from Turbosquid.

not bad. Bird looks a tad too earthy.
-
Here is an adjusted bird . . .
-
An original design, this is an era star base. At the base is a large, deep space detection dish.
-

The ep indicates this was a reomulan war era ship. Perhaps you'd consider this one?
-
Not a bad design, but not high on my list.
-
OK, I am working on the Yorktown which is a carrier of sorts. It appears that this will be a good base model that I will be able to kitbash into the other heavy cruisers. Here is a preview. . . . Before anyone comments, I know that the texture is a little stretched and that the registry is the same as the Powhatan, I haven't done the textures yet, but figured I would throw these on to get the feel. See below . . .
-
Just trying to get one done at a time, FW, Starting to lose interest in the Earth-Romulan war stuff.
Does anyone have any recommendations for arming these vessels? Should I publish as kits (models/hardpoints/textures only), or should I go through and do all the UI stuff and make up loadouts for them too?
-
What I'd do would be not to worry about the loadouts for now.. get the basic ship completed. Then even if you don't want to do the UIs later, you can still release the ship as is. :)
-
As a master of starts and of finishing none, I have embarked on yet another original design. This concept is a Martian Colonial ship, with the idea that perhaps, while United Earth was fighting the Romulans, they were also having to deal with an insurrection on and around their Mars colony. As is apparent, the design takes cues from the SFM ships, but involve an integrated warp core. As always, I am stalled on textures, but may revisit it someday.
-
neat design - I like the idea that the UFP isn't necessarily the utopia - give it some dystopian qualities. Makes it more interesting, like.
-
Been messing around, but nothing worth posting. Had a HUGE test in April that I had to drop everything for. Then a good month-long breather. But don't worry, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. I finally got a mouse for my computer so I can start texturing the numerous WIPs I have.
-
FOAS has inspired me with the Shapeways idea for models. I had seen the site before but at the time didn't think it was that affordable. After looking at it again and seeing they are now offering new, cheaper materials, I started going through my models to see if I had any that were both continuous and that I thought were worth having printed. I did not find any I was thrilled about, so I moved on to my WIP folder and found one I started last month, updated it and now I think it is to the place where I want to upload it to get a price. For whatever reason, when I made a username and password, Shapeways never sent me a confirmation e-mail. I will try again today. I am excited enough about this model that I might actually make some textures for it. Some inspiration for it come from FOAS' postings from The Chronicles of Man. Once I make some textures, it is modular enough that I can make derivative designs of destroyers and carriers. I am disappointed about the front profile as the large "impeller" at the back makes it look square.
-
Nice.. thats really different, look forward to seeing it clothed :-[
-
I widened the ship out a bit, got rid of the "atmospheric stabilizer" and added some more detail. I think it looks a little cleaner this way:
-
Personally, I would split the difference between the original and the wide version. The widened one looks TOO widened, IMHO.
-
Yeah, I could probably take up some of the slack between the engines and e-stat-guns mounted on top, but I will need to re-work the superstructure saddle. Otherwise, it leaves a nice pallet on which to draw my texture. Thanks for the comment.
-
Always on the search for what makes a good ship design, I found this design at Ex-Astris-Scientia.org, modeled it, and used the Drex 5-view for textures. The ship was an alien transport from ENT: The Breach. I never saw the episode but like the ship design. This is a couple-hour practice model (including an unfortunate save error half way through) and only 778 polygons. I plan to remove the large windows and add smaller ones to make it a much larger ship. This will also be a good ship for adding stripes, decals, and registry number. I think this could also pass as a Star Wars Mon Calamari vessel.
Also, if you notice, the back tail, removed and turned around forward would be a good start for a little fighter craft.
-
Love it ;)
-
I'm no Atolm, but I have been messing around with some ideas for a Star Blazers-esk model. Here is my keep-my-hands-busy-while-on-the-phone concept:
-
Working model . . .
-
awsome work mate
-
Guess I'm getting lazy, this is just a primitive sphere with some texture work, inspired by Out of the Silent Planet, by C.S. Lewis. Note the reaction control thrusters on the in-game version.
-
As always, I love your texture work :)
-
Agreed very nice.
-
Gotta love those transparencies.
Good work.
-
I revisited the Yorktown after getting bogged down in some textures. Here is the result:
-
Nice; seggetion can you make the panaling look 50 to 60% smaller?
-
This may be the type of design that would bridge the gap between Starfleet Museum and the ring-style Enterprise. Though I am not sure which would come first. This is the Salamander:
-
I always thought of the ring as a gravity thing. The basic design seams sound but I would recomend using domes for the diameter stepdowns as the current look keeps invoking a ENT Vulcan feeling to me.
-
Vulcan ships use an Annular (ring) warp drive. If you believe that early human ships used some exchanged vulcan tech, then it makes sense.
-
I know, but it just feels wrong for SFM stuff :-\
-
Rest easy Mr. Fox. This is not really intended to fit a Trek timeline. It is yet another iteration in my quest to find a ship design just as iconic, yet just as natural as the TOS Enterprise.
-
Haven't had much time to model what with kids, work, and life. But I had to de-stress today and this is the result. This is a followup to the Salamander previously posted. A little bit more thought out. Not completely happy with the textures yet.
-
nice.
-
Yea, she some kind of starliner?
-
Thanks Mr. Force2. That means a lot, I know you have very high standards.
Mr. Fox, it was not intended as a star liner, but I can see how it could easily fit into that role.
-
When I say her the first thing that came to mind was the Altair Star from KA 8)
-
The elusive realistic sphere ship concept. Have made some headway . . .
-
Battletech Union class Dropship?
-
It does look like that, now that you said it.
-
Very nice ;D
-
thats very impressive.
-
Again with this ring configuration . . .
-
nice work man :)
-
Thanks! I have actually ordered five 2" miniatures from ShapeWays.com. They are supposed to be shipped on July 4. I am looking for to getting them in my hand. It will be the first time I have had something 3D printed!
