So, does anyone have theories as to what caused this spiral?

CNN reported that it might have been a Russian missile test gone awry..But total denial from the Russians   :laugh:

watching the video of the incident shows a way different image.  It does look like a missile whose guidance system went wonky and spiraled out of control.
