hey, glad to see a few familiar names.
I haven't made any ships for a while.. my stuff got lost on a burned out HD and I never had the heart to start up again.
Glad to see some of my old stuff is still up.. but I have to laugh, remembering how concerned I was 9-10 years back to make low poly/rez ships that those comps could run.
-
I still use a ship or two of yours, yup :-)
glad to see you still around.

WOW...It's GOW!

Heh, I just downloaded your Kzin and ISC, I have to say, those Kzin ships are what I've been looking for.
I really really hated Brads vision of the Kzin, and the sfb stuff was just too boxy.
Very very happy with them.
Good lord Crim, does the church of taldren even exist anymore? Ha ha.

Welcome back :)

Not a normal inhabitant of these boards, but I chanced to see your name on the recent topics and had to come by and say Hi Gow.
You made me a member of your Kingon House after CW6, I was honor bound to reply. ;) (of course I would have anyway even if I wasn't.
P.S. if you wanna come by and say hi to a couple other peps from the old SFC days, Squiggy, Sockfoot, Kor, Gook and I can be found here:
http://adventurefollies.com/forum/index.php
I'm sure they would get a kick out of you dropping in and saying hi.
-
Yah Chuut, I've been posting on the STO boards and found Kor, Squigman and Sockfoot, along with Gook.
And I do remember that campaign, you and another KAT fought so well on my front, sigh, was such a shame we rarely got to be on the same side.
Funny, I've played SWG, WoW, EQ2, Vanguard, GW, AoC, and still, except for a brief time pre nge in SWG I have never experienced the intensity of what we did in the CW campaigns.
-
That other Kzin was KAT Furocious. :)
Yeah, its a shame STO wants you to start as a FED and has the other races playing as "monster races".
-
wow you're atleast the second such indivdual from what back when to show up. Can't remember who the other was. But I remember your name off a few readme's, though I can't visualise any specifics.
So now that you are back, watcha gunna do? going to start building again?
-
building again is iffy, I lost everything I had but photoshop.
for the time being, I am very busy reworking a lot of my stuff, since it tends to be mostly 256 maps indexed color.
just doing that is going to be a major project.

What did you use before? Were you as far back as the Lightwave days? Or MAX?
If Lightwave, Mackie or someone who models in that might be able to point you to something freeware that's Lightwave compatible..
If MAX, gmax seems to be working well for the guys who use it.. the plugins here seem to work great. :)
Milkshape is still out there, and those plugins work for everything except break mods (apparently). Or you can use things like Zmodeler or Amapi.. whatever will export into a format either gmax or Milkshape will read. I'll start a quick and dirty mesh in Anim8or just to get it all laid out, and then export it into .3ds to pull into my old copy of 3dsMax r3.1 for fine tuning (although my fine tuning on meshes is still like banging a rock with a sledge hammer.. I can things somewhat like I like them). ;)
And what did you use for texturing? These days, Paint.NET is a good alternative to Photoshop (even though you said that you use 'Shop), as well there's other stuff like Paint Shop Pro (now owned by Corel) and about five or six others that accept Photoshop plugins. If you used Illustrator, Inkscape seems to be working well in that regard.. lots of good alternatives out there now..

Well, I was from that dark age that made lwo's in Milkshape, then used scme. I got GMax downloaded, but its being stubborn, it runs till I drop the plugin dll in, then it goes into convulsions and won't initialize. Meh.
Im good with photoshop, I'ts my old friend now. I do think I tried, waay back, to do a texture in MSPaint. ha ha. I recall some of Ghost's early stuff was MSPaint.
Just realizing I can run high polys and high rez ships.. still a bit conservative, guess all those dynaverse crashes still affect me.
-
Ahhh... so if you can use Milkshape, there are plugins for it to export to .MOD now.. no need to use SCME for that now.
So, if you still have it, you're all set. :D

Sorry fer the late reply, but welcome back mate.
