What would be the stumbling blocks, if any, to getting the SFC titles on Direct2Drive services like Impulse, or Steam?
I've noticed some extremely old games available for a 10 dollar purchase to download from Impulse, and thought, why can't SFC do the same thing? Could it be used to breathe some life back into the community?

I would guess because it an old game and no place to play it online like all others even OP is getting old.

Maybe the problem is that the only place besides DynaverseII to play online is on Gamespy Arcade. I've seen Direct2Drive advertised on GSA, so the two would probably work together, but I'm not sure how other services like Steam or Impulse would be with having a game that had to be played on another company's player matching service. I believe Steam is similar/a competitor to GSA, so they might not go for it (unless SFC got an overhaul and was Gamespy-independent ;)). Now I see why you wrote Steam in tiny letters!
But it would be great to spread the SFC titles this way. Maybe after this has been discussed thoroughly, a formal request could be made to the Direct2Drive or similar companies to carry SFC?

Steam is in tiny letters not because of Gamespy, but because of what they're customer "service" department did to me eight years ago. They determined that my Counter-Strike key was copied, or somehow invalid. Despite showing them that I did indeed own the game (i sent pictures) they told me that if I wanted to play still, I needed to buy a new copy of the game. I told them I wouldn't buy a glass of water from them if they were the only vendor in the middle of a desert. (I was quite hard up for cash at that time) Eight years later, I still have not purchased anything from them, and I refuse to do so, even with Civilization V coming out through them this summer. I'll wait for Civ 6 before I send a dime to Steam. Now if they were to take SFC, and offer it only through them... I might be able to find it in my heart to forgive them. Maybe... not entirely sure about that.
As for the game being old, I've seen older fossils dug up on Impulse.

I didn't imply it is old it is just getting old as it is harder to play on windows 7.

There isn't a chance of this, trust me.
We'll be selling copies of EAW / OP / SFC III here, within the next two weeks.

What's the lowdown on this?
I'd still think a d2d model could be useful for distribution. I also hate STEAM with a passion...refuse to buy any game only offered via steam, or which requires me to connect to steam...BUT I know that it has it's uses and there are those who swear by steam...plus the ability to buy the game via download probably wouldn't be a bad thing in the distribution model today.
Just a thought.
I would take it that the beginning of July is the two weeks marker...or would it be next week the official time plan?

I'm also wondering "why not?" but maybe it's a legal restriction and not a choice to avoid Direct2Drive services.
