Solar Tsunami to Strike Earth
Earth is bracing for a cosmic tsunami Tuesday night as tons of plasma from a massive solar flare head directly toward the planet.
The Sun's surface erupted early Sunday morning, shooting a wall of ionized atoms directly at Earth, scientists say. It is expected to create a geomagnetic storm and a spectacular light show -- and it could pose a threat to satellites in orbit, as well.
"This eruption is directed right at us and is expected to get here early in the day on Aug. 4," said Leon Golub of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. "It's the first major Earth-directed eruption in quite some time."

Dang, it's cloudy here. Will not be able to see it.

How strange that I was talking to my brother bout this the other day. I was telling him bout how I thought with the earth's upper atmosphere collapsed like it is and then the sun going into what I believe will be an unusually nasty maximum, that we are gonna get fried on earth. He asked me if I knew the odds of getting hit by the sun's plasma outburst which he said were unusual to begin with then take 360 degrees by 360 degrees and there ya go.
Well we got hit by this one, lol. What happens when its a big flare? We all gonna get irradiated and die off?

we get hit by CMEs all the time. the question is though of strength - with the bigger badder ones being rarer and rarer and less likely to hit. For the most part a CME is not going to fry earth, but it may fry all our electronics and sats. it would take a real monster - one bigger than all of recorded history, to fry all life.

i got skunked last night on the aurora, by the time i was to be able to see it a thunder storm rolled thru. there is an even bigger CME about to hit us late tomorrow. so get ready for an even better show!!!!

This is just the begining. Global warming by humans my ass. Its possable for the earth to lose more than 1/2 of the satalites in orbit and most if not all raido comunications. I bet its a Y2K type scare but the possabilities are not good. 2010 ,2011 and 2012 is suposed to be the most solar active era in recorded history. The sun is going to get hotter and bigger untill it dies thats a fact or science in the year 2010 any way . I feel sorry for the poeple on the ISS they will not have any caves or trees to hide under when it does happen.

The shielding on the ISS has been adequate to date. Flying to mars, thats another story...

I don't think ist somthing that needs to be worried about. alone the normal paceof solar activity won't really threaten life here at least another billion years. Comfort from tech. is another story. I know how to grow my own food, hunt fish and make alot of the things I consider esential for life so I know if something happens (as it is by no means a mathimatical certainty) I'll do ok. As for global warming thats not a man made problem. It is part of the natural cycle between iceages that we are currently in. We did not cause this and it is the hight of human arrogance to think other wise or that it can be stoped; or even slowed for a prolonged period of time. Get used to it. The water is going to rise. It happened before. It will happen again.

go out tonight! should be visible again!
