HI just dug out my old SFC II game and wanted ot play on my windows 7 laptop. The program loads with no trouble,but.., everytime i try to type in a letter or digit of the code i just get a ding sound and nothing shows up in the window? can anyone help?

You only need the code for online play, which wont work with win7 at this point.
-
Recommended procedure:
disable AV
install SFC products (as admin) outside of the "program files" folder. Say, C:\SFC\ ...
patch (as admin)
install mods etc.
Copy the main game exe (StarFleet2.exe/StarFleetOP.exe) and paste it as a shortcut on the desktop and set it to run as admin. Use this shortcut to run the game.
re-enable av
configure or disable firewalls and rotuers. (reference directplay and gamespy ports) (there are directplay server entries that may prompt the windows firewall in the background behind the game depending on how you configure things)
Everything but the Dynaverse should work.
There are more thorough breakdowns around here. Have a poke around and look for posts by Pestalence and other experienced players.

Have you tried hitting the windows key to minimize the screen before entering it?

and using the mouse to click in the box to enter the key
