Title: Nacelle Project...
Post by: Centurus on January 31, 2011, 11:35:43 pm
My friend Dawg, some of you may know him, asked me if I could make a warp nacelle for him that he designed a few years ago.  I asked Atolm to look at the drawing and see if he could redraw it and clean it up a bit for me, which he did.  (Thanks Atolm)

Anyway, after getting Atolm's refined version of Dawg's nacelle, I went to work building it, and this is what I came up with.  I may rebuild it again from scratch.  May not.

Comments?

Could you show it with any grills and or glowy bits the design wanted? Its hard to judge on a mesh unless its as is no other changes other than texture panneling , regs and lines. The model looks flawless , the design kicks ares in any post trek3 era in my opinion. But hard to judge the unknown. Edit this would rock on any all x era ships.

Mapping is something I can't deliver on, and textures even more so.  However below is the refined image Atolm made for me.

Play with general colors for textures as a start ,maping can be a pain but can also be simple if you map general colors  :) Detach any parts of the model you want to color up. Apply a plainer map your done. Its cartoony but works with any idea/ theme wanted to show off the look and play with a wip goals  Worked fine for my Futurama robot model pack though some say otherwise they still work in most games ;).

Na, if it's gonna have color, I'd want it to be properly mapped.

Well thats a way to map materials on a model. Maped for sfc is not a standard process. If its high poly most waist their time createing a 2d map for stuff like this. Each to their own.

Unwrapping is one of the best skills to have in the SFC workflow, mostly because many people hate doing it, and many people can't do it well. therefor, it's in high high demand.

That looks nice.

Personally though I am not wild about the thin "ring" that wraps around the front bussard.
I'd go for a trim that tapers out as it reaches the bussard, so not to obstruct the look of it.
But that's just me...

the refit connie had the same thing, but it faded into the structure of the nacelle once past the front area. I imagine it's an homage to that.
