Title: Someone with Experience in FASA, could you give me a quick hand?
Post by: FoaS_XC on February 20, 2011, 12:11:55 pm
I've been looking around for some reference images, and I can't find em. I Also can't find Atrahasis' models. What I'm looking for is basically this: "What is the difference between the PB-32 and the PB-47 warp nacelles.

I know that the PB-31s are the Pilot Cage version, PB-32s are the series run, but apparently the PB-47s were on the Achernar subclass or some such. I can't for the life of me find any differences in the nacelles appearance. Is there one?

yes the PB 47s have no warp spike on the4 front and have same moving fans and lights of the 32s. They also have the white half sphere on the sten instead of the grill vents.

So...

PB-31: Has spike, has cherry red bussard, has no sphere on aft.
PB-32: Has no spike, has cherry red bussard, has no sphere on aft.
PB-47: Has no spike, has red/orange bussard, has sphere on aft.

What about those glow-blue warp-grilles? they are apparent on the PB-47, but what about the PB-31, and the PB-32?

I found this diagram at the Cygnus x1 database, http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/blueprints/vance/Schematic_Fed_Achernar.jpg (http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/blueprints/vance/Schematic_Fed_Achernar.jpg)

Here's the host page: http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/blueprints-main.php (http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/blueprints-main.php)

ENORMOUS supply of Trek schematic goodness  :coolsmiley:

Good schematics, but I don't see anything that goes into detail as to various Nacelle models - perhaps I'm not looking close enough.

I've been hearing references to "PB-72" nacelles, but I cannot seem to find any pictures of them. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

By the looks of this oddity (http://www.tacticalstarshipcombat.com/FASA/Files/FASA%20-%202012%20The%20Next%20Generation%20Officers%20Manual%20pg52_53.pdf) they look like NCC 1701-B style go-sticks.

Also found this, completely related thing, while searching.

Gal-X has LF-43s, iirc, while the sink appears to be sporting something from Moen, just can't place the model number.

Gah, Galaxy = LF-43s totally throws off my naming convention. I'm throwing that out >.<.

Totally dig the sink, though.

I agree. It actually throws a lot of the naming of things off. Unless you assume that the letters designate a specific manufacturer or bid holder and the numbers designate the design run (PB-31: 31st design from the PB company). But it still doesn't explain why the LF company would have their 43rd series be 80 years or so after the PB company had their 72nd. I do agree with you. I just found the number on this bit of fanon (http://www.asdb.net/asdb/docs/other/nacelles.htm). Since it went with the sink...

I'm tending to go with a style. P? = TOS style, L? = TMP style, and who knows for other stuff.

That pretty much explains what my thinking is on it is.

Glow I think was added in the remastered shots but should only be on the 47s I think.

Sometimes I hate myself. I went into total nerd mode and had a very long post in response initially to this that kinda touched on what you were saying. I'd summarize and improve on it now, so that everyone can know that you and I are on different pages of the same book, but I don't want to bore you or anyone else.

I was thinking of nacelles of a series being interchangeable as a whole, while you were thinking interchangeable parts within the main part. To a further degree,  interchangeable parts for all modelers. Very nice.

Look at all fasa classes not just heavy cruisers to choose styles of useable warps for kitbash use. Ive seen many fan designs that work good for any class , modeled several infact but nevermind check them all out before you final  :).

PB warpnacelles are non linear warp nacelles and indeed TOS era nacelles and than there where the LN nacelles which are linear warp nacelles of late TOS/Phase2 and TMP era but i didn't know that this is FASA nomenclature  :)

I guess its not FASA nomenclature, but eveytime I see it its in relation to FASA ships... I can't remember where I properly came from..

I think that the PB series started with the Ships of The Starfleet books.

For what its worth this is the way that I've been listing out warp engines for the PB series

this deals with the first pilot warp engine  Second Pilot warp engine and Production version warp engine
note that the PB 47 is for Franz joseph's Archernar class comes later

I hope that this helps a little
