Two of my personal favorite movies, both from the same year. The last part of the 80's seemed to focus on water based Sci FI films.
The Abyss (1989) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096754/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096754/)
vs.
Leviathan (1989) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097737/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097737/)
While The Abyss had James Cameron excellent abilities to tell a tale, Leviathan had one of my favorite actors, Peter Weller.

Abyss all the way for me.
I did unspeakable things in a theater playing Leviathan back in the day - this the the main reason I do not drink 151 anymore.

LOL, I can just imagine man. But yeah, I'm torn on this one myself, as both films where pretty good and tie in of course to memories of that decade.

Finally a SF genre I don't care for. I saw neither film. No vote.

The abyss - hands down. I love Ed Harris :)

I liked both movies, but I went with the Abyss. No real reason. I just liked it better.

We have less than 9 years to get that Sealab in place...

wow, I know I saw Leviathan back when but even the trailer could barely resurrect any feelings of other than "wooden". Cameron's overrated IMHO but the winner here.

To me Abyss is a one of a kind movie one of those that should have been made in to a 3 parter. Story line could have been easly expanded ect ect but when it was made it would have failed due to lack of cgi tech at the time.
