Hello
My question is, is this just an informational holding sight or do you guys actually play online?
Assuming no online play, is there some place to download offline content?
Is there any real hope of online play returning?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The games are older, but SFC:OP is still played by a few regulars in Gamespy Arcade and the Dynaverse.

Here is your best bet for any more content. The most popular is Firesoul's OP+.

Yes. Dynaverse has recently gotten permission to sell the game and make patches despite its age. There are some issues with Win Vista/7 that are being repaired as we speak. Hopefully the combo of these patches and the game being for sale here will bring a resurgence in popularity soon.

That is good news. I bought SFC II years ago, and only played online once.
There were 3 others I think, we pinned and then killed the only klingon. A few minutes after that the wife came home and I never saw another person online after that.
So i, for one, am really hopeful that online play will return.

With two systems running winxp I think I am in good shape for awhile. While vista proved to be useless, I haven't heard much about win7.
You just don't know how much I hated the loss of so many great games when win98 took a nose dive. The lack of a dos shell to run them in upset me greatly. Some I have managed to find fixes for but not very many.

Yea I hear ya! ;) Sadly Windows 7 is no better than Vista (Worse imo)! It's like thank you very much Microsoft for cramming Windows Vista and 7 down our throats!! :banghead:

Windos 7 is a much better OS than earilier versions. Unfortunately getting older programs to work on it can be dodgey so I dual boot W7/XP for that reason. The best of both worlds.

IMHO Winxp is the best windows based OS. I bought this one with vista installed, didn't take long before I wiped reformat and installed winxp.
Microsux thinks they got us by the short hairs but I got news for them...hehehe long as I have my winxp cd, they ain't gonna get me to use any of that other garbage.

I agree with much of what you guys say. I'm an old Win98 fan, I'm using XP mostly now but I'm in the same problem that Zenbeck is in, no real way to play SFC anymore. I could play in solitare, but I can't go past speed 4 and its like chess, how many people play solitaire chess?
Anyways, I bought a Vista system once and boy did I find out how lousy an OS it is. I have no knowelge of Win 7 but I have a feeling Microsoft is trying to ween us off the shoot'em up games on the PC and just have that focused on consoles for kids. Maybe they are trying to tell us just to "grow up" I suppose. Oh well.
Anyways, good luck to the dynaverse people here if you can make Online play reliable. SFC is a classic, but its a super modern game that is an oldier now that has some contraversy. Thats a lot to combat.

Win7 isn't so bad. I really believe that Vista was a windows-ME marketing plot. Release vista to make 7 look better by comparison.

That would make sense, experiment with 64 bit architecture with Vista for Win 7. Well, if thats the case, best of luck to Microsoft on it. I don't think I can keep up with the Jones with it anymore. :P

you mean your not ready to buy windows 8 already?
-
Are you kidding? With this economy!?! LOL
-
I am not happy that Microsoft can't make their operating system backwards compatible with older software especially our games. I mean we have to jump through hoops to get it to work and even then some games still won't work! So annoying!

Its all drama. That fact is life moves forwards...
Who knows, perhaps one day in 100 years we'll be using an OS made by Applesoft and Google called WindriodOS XXIII running on some quantum chip....
Regardless of weather life is better or not, the only to go backward is to reject change.. And you can to a degree... for example some people have thier 'Model T' is just about any tech or lifestyle.... Or you could embrace the new stuff and make the most of what your given. Every person to his own you know...
I've seen people who will only ever own 'antiquated' car for mechanical reason, and they find the neatest stuff. I've seen people find ingenues uses for the 286 as if it's the only computer they will ever need. I've also seen pretty amazing new technology invited. Even if it is limited by patenting, DRM, licensing, cross-platform drama, etc.. Some pretty neat stuff still comes out of the wood work.
The truth is there is no perfect situation, and its up to us to make the best of what available for our particular lifestyle. Well, also, if you choose to accept it, that life moves forward and as things change it is its own effort to preserve what is 'unsupported'.
