Title: Ethernet hub/switch?
Post by: NJAntman on June 14, 2012, 02:59:24 pm
Looking to get a simple switch/hub for the following situation:  Have about 40 feet of ethernet cable currently going from my router to a PS3 in son's room, I want to be able to use that same ethernet line to connect to a PC in son's room when the PS3 it is not being used. Any suggestions/recommendations on as simple/cheap hub/switch for the job?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704042 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704042) - has good review and is inexpensive.

Or anything at WalMart or any office supply store like Staples. In my personal experience, these home switches are more or less equal. The only problem I run into is the odd model that has a rep for burning out or not holding signal. It happens, but not very often these days.

At that length, the cable type (5, 5e, or 6), and surroundings, you may or may not get 1gbps. But it should connect ok, and share the link.

Thanks for the recommend Strat. Used up an idle BestBuy gift card and got it in 4 days free shipping. Plugged right in, no setup, soft disabed the wifi card and now the net is flowing at glorius speed to the back of the house. Nice call.
