Yea I read that article, this is completely stupid, Hunt then to extinction with a permit so we can raise money to preserve them.
Illogical. :o
-
If the money is used to hire more rangers to prevent poaching, or to help preserve their habitat, not so stupid.
-
Well you must protect the species, not kill them. One less can mean the end of the species. Sure more ranger to watch is good, but if you stop telling the world that the species is in danger, poacher wont go after it since it wont be a rare animal.
-
Let me put it to you this way. If the life of this one rhino helps to preserve the lives of a dozen rhinos, its better for the species as a whole.
-
BTW, since rhino horns are made out of keratin, how much money do you think I'd make if I ground up my toe nail clippings and sold them as rhino horn?
-
The rhino to be hunted is a non-breeding male, so he is not helping the species anyway. If it helps hire more rangers, its a good thing.

I'm with you, Don, and it has nothing to do with whether or not that particular male is still breeding or not. Sends the wrong message, and not justifiable as "money raising." Kust an excuse for some yahoo to blast a large creature.
Meh, I saw a jpeg the other day of a nature photographer with the caption "Real men hunt with cameras" that i'd love to post but can't find it now. Suffice to say, that's how I've "hunted" in my life.
