If you want to get creative, you can also use a 3 letter/number designation for the ship class. F-CON could stand for Federation Constitution for example. The Klingons, Hydrans and Romulans use this format (K-D6, R-CON, H-CHY), while the Federation, Lyrans and Gorn use CA, DD, FF, etc...

I added in a couple of extra races into SFC 1 here as the game engine seems to allow it, so long as it complies with the ?-FF, ?-CL, etc. thing.
The minimum needed for a race is obviously freighters / merchant ships and some sort of naval warship to protect them such as frigates, cutters, corvettes, skiffs, etc. all under the FF size vessels. This would work for a less advanced just developed warp drive race with most likely Drone A / PH3 / Disrupter 1 maximum technology. I added in a few such home brew races, one without even warp drive, just for something to conquer with the Klingon Empire.
The thing is, with home brew races, is to have a ship design theme / ethos / style unique to that race's starship development tree.
Disrupters are a spin off of particle beam cannons so would be perhaps more common than phased energy weapons.
I invented a more advanced foe for the Klingons to conquer / have border disputes with (on the away facing border from the SFB "core") called the Eln which has a complete navy including monitors.

But quite frankly after some of the points made in this thread.... Almost gave me pause to returning to the community.
If this is how you behave when someone tries to help you (even if you may not be getting what you might want) then get bent. Try being more clear in your inquiries.

So please just avoid posting into my threads in the future if this is your attitude.
Gladly. I removed my posts because you indicated it was bad information. Who needs bad information?
I said nothing inflammatory to you and I'm sorry if you took it that way. I was merely trying to figure out what you were trying to do. From my perspective you began in the middle of a conversation that I wasn't involved in. When I tried to find out more so I could be more helpful you became irritated. But I suppose you're right. It's entirely my fault. I shouldn't have posted in here.

SH - Shuttle
PF - Fighter
F - Freighter
FF - Frigate
ES - Escort
DD - Destroyer
DW - War Destroyer
CL - Light Cruiser
CA - Cruiser/Heavy Cruiser
NCA - New Cruiser/New Heavy Cruiser
BCH - Battlecruiser
CV - Carrier
DN - Dreadnaught
BB - Battleship
LP - Listening Post
BS - Base Station
BT - Battlestation
SB - Starbase
I think the DW and NCA are redundant in the list.

It's a little inconsistent but I decided classifications based on the perspective that the Cube is equivalent to a battleship and tried to scale the other ships and their relative roles from there. If you peek inside the text files, you'll usually see how I classed them at the time (although why I listed the Hive as a Heavy Cruiser rather than a Carrier is beyond me now).
Limpet - FF (should probably be PF or even SH)
Nexus - CA (should probably be FF)
Star - DD
Bolus - CL (never finished/released)
Gyro - CA
Elipse - CA (Heavy)
Hive - CA (Heavy) - (should probably be CV)
Harvester - BCH
Tactical Star - DN
Spindle - DN
(Cube - BB)
Maw - BB

Aye, those were meant to be hangars. You can swap them around to suit your own ideas - the Harvester might work as a battlestation.

Sorry to not answer your questions FW but i still have another, as this is for the Borg. Where do Borg get their resources from, via assimilation or do they have some dedicated worker drone caste, that gets them their needed resources through mining and such? Whit this question answered, you will know what is needed for a functioning Borg infrastructure. :)
