All my keys make a chime sound and don't work!
-
Usually hitting ALT+TAB (except in XP) will fix that. Do you mean that it always does that even after you leave the game and restart it?
-
Yes, i've restarted both the game and the computer.

Well that's a stumper. The keyboard works alright in all other repects I presume as you are typing here. The only other thing I can suggest is reinstalling the game and repatching. Hold off on that as a last resort though. Someone here might be able to figure it out for you.

It turns out to be NVidia's new 45.xx drivers are not, apparently, compatable w/ SFC...

This is a typical problem that I have found under Windows 2000. The trick that I have found is that you should not run the default exe the icon points to containing the intro company logo movies. This *always* locks out the keyboard for me when I run it.
Instead, change your shortcut to run the StarfleetOP.exe file. This will bypass the intro logo movies and will also resolve your keyboard lockout issue.
Important Note: If you are creating a new shortcut to point to this file, make absolutely sure you fill in the working directory box with the correct path to your OP directory. Failure to do this will create problems accessing fighters on carriers.

Another suggestion, if you have WinXP (I do, and suffer this same problem).
Right-click on the shortcut.
Go to 'Properties'
Select the 'Compatibility' tab.
Check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:'
Select 'Windows 98 / Windows Me'
Click 'OK' (you don't need to set any of the other options)
Try again - should take care of it!

My shortcut already is set to the .exe, but the movie still plays, so I just escape through it and everything's fine.
