Title: What would you call your own?

On the lighter side.....

If the powers that be could slip into the patch (or next patch  ) an option in the refit screen to add a nose-art / name plate to your hard won ship, what would it be?

Getting chased down by a klink wouldn't be so bad if I could have a laugh at the nose art as it swung by!

Depends really. I usually give each ship another name. Right now i'm flying the RIS Sol Opacus (that is: overshadowed sun). I don't think that it would actually be possible, custom textures generally use up a lot of bandwith and server space. However if they could make your own computer calculate what the texture looks like (that means that it can only be characters), it would not cost that much bandwith and no server space at all. You just get the name transmitted (which is some 16 characters long) and the computer can make the calculations to create it on the hull.

I generally name my ship the USS Alita after the manga series Battle Angel Alita. If I'm playing klink or something, I'll name it IKV or RIS Gunnm.
Not sure what registry number I'd give it... I'm sure there's a cool number associated with her in the manga, i'd have to look for it though.

Fed Ships i would name them either U.S.S. Excalibur NCC-1705-A (After my favorite ship in SFC, seems like everytime i played the fed campaign that was the ship i would get when i went to the constitution class) or U.S.S. Relentless NCC-75326.  As for other race ships, i dont know too many Klingon or Romulan words to name a ship. i would just leave with what the computer gave me.

Personnally when playing fed i just use any name but add the prefix HMCS instead of USS.  After all not all starship captains are from the states.

Kill silhouettes! Thanks ActiveX for dislodging the overlooked (bangs head into desk for not seeing the obvious).
As Aenigma pointed out the Nose-art would be a bit of a strain but I would think standardized silhouettes would be easier.
Begs a follow on question, what would they be? Maybe race symbols enbedded in ship outlines. I would hope for cartoon characterizations of the same, say a Rom emblem sprouting pigeon claws for the easy to kill Talon.

Well, I used to always name my Fed Ships   USS Vindicator, but since our friend Capt. Castrin STOLE the name for the Praxis Redux Campaign story, I've decided to rename my ship always to the USS Achilles.  (Named after the WW2 ship which fought so honorably)  

Sorry Castrin, it was probably cooincidence, but I just couldnt go on without saying

I've recently been debating over whether or not to name my next ship the USS Pon'Farr  (Could make docking procedures quite fun )

However, all the Federation ships are from the United Federation of Planets, right?

So much for the *United* Federation, not to mention united Earth in your scenario!

Ah it's good to be Romulan. We don't have to worry about fed prefixes. Instead we use IRW or RIS.

USS stands for "United Space Ship."  According to Dubya and Blair, the US and the UK are "united" ...

I don't know about SFC3 (sic), but this is already possible in SFC2.  I always swap out the textures of my Gorn models
so that the ship I'm flying in has my GDA logo on the wing, and also has "Bruce" stenciled across the Gorn symbol.
(If you have to ask why, you don't want to know.)

For laughs I once set the Gorn CA to show with a black hull and "No pooftas!" in bold print across the bow.  It's a great
laugh on the Dynaverse when you look over your shoulder and see a menacing fleet of Gorn cruisers, all shouting, "No pooftas!"

I've no experience with the game, but I'm sure texture edits with a jpg editor must still work with the new game.  You might even be
able to do it with paint program in your accessories folder.  Should be easy.

 Back to topic.. Although I mostly fly Fed I always thought USS stood for " Ugly Space Shi.....p"

  I rename my ship the RIS Bucephalus, as that was the name of the horse of the famous Alexander of Macedon, also known as Alexander the Great. In addition, it looks like a Romulan ship name.
